CLINTON, S.C. – Following a 3-1 season-starting win at Alabama State last weekend, the Presbyterian College women's soccer team looks to make it two-for-two in their first home match of the new year versus Newberry this Friday night.

First touch will take place at 7:00 from Martin Stadium, with ESPN+ providing live video of the contest between old Division II rivals. PC faced the Wolves every year when they were a member of the South Atlantic Conference until the mid-2000's.

With the two campuses separated by less than half an hour, the Blue Hose will go up against Newberry for the first time since current head coach Matt Smith was beginning his career as a PC assistant back in 2006.

Presbyterian swept the Big South weekly awards on Monday (the first school in three years to do so), serving up an exciting game one performance where they did not allow a goal over the last 85 minutes.

At the conclusion of tomorrow's match, PC will honor their four seniors: Emma Brown, Emilia Lieber, Lyla Chadd, and Lucy Cartin.

SCOUTING THE WOLVES

 
- Head coach Deedee Alexander gets prepped for her 12^th season directing the Wolves, who have not yet played an official match in 2026. Last year's results for Newberry started promising, but ended with a whimper.

- None of Newberry's first six opponents scored a single goal against them, leading to five wins and a tie right out of the gate. However, the final nine games took a swift turn, losing or drawing in each of them.

- Incoming senior keeper Madison Gutierrez was selected to the All-SAC second team roster after saving nearly 82 percent of shots that came her way. It took over 500 minutes for Newberry to give up their first goal.

- In true road matches last season, the Wolves were split evenly with two wins, two losses, and two ties. After the fast start, they would only be able to churn out one league win (a 1-0 result against Mars Hill).


 
THREE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

 
- Presbyterian made program history 24 hours after the Alabama State W, becoming the first Big South institution since High Point in 2023 to earn Offensive Player, Defensive Player, and Freshman of the Week simultaneously.

- All three of those award-winners were making their college debuts in Montgomery: sophomore transfer Maddie Smith, along with rookies Sydney Stoner and Katy Verdery.

- Smith posted a brace in her first PC effort, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals roughly 41 minutes apart.

- Verdery capped off the two-point win by hitting in the 75^th minute, while Stoner was part of a Blue Hose back line that gave up just one shot attempt in the entire second half.

- Since Smith took the position in 2024, seven different PC players have been selected for a Big South weekly award. Three of those recipients are on the offensive end.


 
SENIOR NIGHT

 
- Emma Brown has appeared in 30 career games and recently surpassed 1,000 total minutes in the Alabama State victory. After sitting out her sophomore campaign due to injury, she returned to score the game-winning goal in the 87^th minute of a dramatic win over South Carolina State last fall. She was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District squad.

- Emilia Lieber has made 27 starts in her time with the program, playing 48 matches altogether with 2,500-plus minutes. She has six career points (two goals, two assists), and like Brown, she has one game-winner under her belt (a strike in the 69^th minute to defeat Wofford in her sophomore year).

- Lyla Chadd has been one of the most dependable defensive players in recent memory, never missing one opportunity to start in 51 games. She has spent over 4,500 minutes on the field in her career, contributing to 11 shutouts (five against conference opponents). Lyla is a two-time member of the CSC Academic All-District team and was also named to the 2024 Big South All-Tournament team as the Blue Hose advanced to the semifinals.

- Lucy Cartin has seen the field in 29 total games, with 16 of them occurring last season as a junior. She is creeping up on 700 career minutes, posting three shots-on-goal during her tenure.
