Blue Hose Look to Rebound Against Bison on Sunday

FARGO, N.D. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team will engage in the second half of their Upper Midwest visit this weekend, headed for North Dakota State on Sunday at 2:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.

PC was denied a 3-0 start to the campaign on Thursday with a slim defeat to the University of North Dakota, conceding the game-winner with seven minutes on the clock. They'll aim to get back in the win column versus North Dakota State in another first-time encounter.

Like the first match in this 1,400-mile road trip, Sunday's affair will be streamed live on the Midco Sports Summit League Network.

Head coach Matt Smith's crew is in the middle of a four-game road swing overall, returning to South Carolina for future dates with Furman and Wofford next week.

SCOUTING THE BISON

- Winners of the 2024 Summit League Championship and following that up with five wins last fall, North Dakota State will face off with PC after taking their first W of the season on Thursday against Prairie View A&M 3-1.

- NDSU stumbled out of the gates versus stiff competition, losing to Green Bay, Marquette, and Minnesota by a combined count of 7-1.

- Head coach Mike Regan's unit has turned the corner since then, earning a scoreless draw with Washington State before outshooting Prairie View 22-3 and picking up 14 corner kicks.

- Junior Morgan Russmann was responsible for the tie-breaking score in the 62nd minute, while the Bison got an insurance goal from Ellie Sanchez at the 78:48 stamp.

- Interestingly, North Dakota State has played all five of their games at home so far. They were 3-5 at this venue over the 2025 campaign.

LAST TIME OUT

- Freshman keeper Alexa Garcia was able to register a season-high five saves and Julija Poplašen tallied her first career goal in the 44th minute, but PC fell short in their first duel with North Dakota.

- The game was tightly contested throughout, with UND just barely edging the Blue Hose in total shots 13-11. Presby had given up just one goal in the first 195 minutes of the season, but the Fighting Hawks were able to win it in the latter stages.

- Poplašen nearly scored a second goal with 21 ticks left, but her last-ditch effort was stopped by North Dakota netminder Thale Ruether.

- Sydney Stoner, Lyla Chadd, and Cassidy Oldham played the full 90 in the close loss, their first match of the young season that was decided by a single point.

- Sophomore striker Maddie Smith is one of six players in the Big South Conference who has scored three goals already. She was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week after putting in a brace at Alabama State.
