SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team (3-1) suffered its first defeat of the season on Tuesday night (Sept. 1) at Wofford, falling to the Terriers 25-27, 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
The Blue Hose started strong, recording 19 kills to take a dramatic opening set. However, Wofford took the ensuing three sets to clinch the win.
Courtney Williams powered the Blue Hose offensively with 10 kills. Anisa Dorlouis delivered another strong performance, registering a double-double. She posted 34 assists and 13 digs to secure her second double-double of the year.
Defensively, Celimar Hoyos paced Presbyterian with 23 digs. On the front line, Meredith Reisman and Ashley Miller recorded four blocks apiece.
SET ONE – PC 27, WOFFORD 25
- The Terriers started off hot to begin the evening, picking up five of the first seven points to grab the early lead in Spartanburg. The Blue Hose quickly responded to even the set at seven before a kill by Ashley Miller put PC ahead for the first time.
- Presbyterian held a narrow lead throughout the middle of the set, hanging on to an 18-16 advantage. The Blue Hose finally were able to separate, taking their largest lead of the set to go up 20-16 after back-to-back kills from Courtney Williams.
- The Terriers responded to make a late push in the frame, evening the set at 23 apiece. A kill from Anisa Dorlouis put PC back ahead, giving the Blue Hose a set point.
- In the end, Wofford saved two set points, but the third time was the charm for Presbyterian. A block by Courtney Williams sealed the set, putting the Blue Hose in front to start the night.
- PC logged a .381 hitting percentage in the opening set with 19 kills.
SET TWO – WOFFORD 25, PC 14
- The Terriers sprinted out to the lead in the second set, quickly building a 9-2 advantage.
- Presbyterian finally settled into the set with kills from Williams and Emma McHatten, but Wofford maintained a big advantage.
- PC got as close as six after a block by Brittney Daphnis, but Wofford held firm. The Terriers took the set 25-14 to tie the match.
SET THREE – WOFFORD 25, PC 17
- The Terriers held on to their momentum to begin the third, winning five of the first six points. Wofford extended its lead to double digits in the middle of the set before the Blue Hose began to chip away to get back in it.
- A kill from Julia Yurkovich followed by a service ace from Celimar Hoyos got PC within six down 18-12. Late in the set, a kill from Meredith Reisman closed the gap to just four, with Wofford ahead 21-17.
- However, the Terriers finished off the set shortly after, claiming the third 25-17 to grab a two set to one lead in Spartanburg.
SET FOUR – WOFFORD 25, PC 16
- PC struck first to begin the fourth set, grabbing a 4-2 advantage after a kill by Miller. Wofford quickly jumped back in front, going up 11-7.
- The Terriers grew their lead to five, but a kill by Williams and an attack error put PC back within striking distance down 15-12.
- Wofford retook the momentum to separate from Presbyterian late in the set, finishing off the night with a 3-1 victory.
NOTABLES
- This was the 39th all-time meeting between the two teams.
- Anisa Dorlouis logged a season-high 34 assists to lead PC. She posted her second double-double of the season (34 assists and 13 digs).
- Celimar Hoyos recorded 23 digs for the second straight match. She has registered at least 20 digs in three of PC's four contests.
- Ashley Miller recorded a season-high four blocks, tying her career-high.
- Meredith Reisman stayed hot on the defensive end, posting four total blocks. She has had at least three blocks three times this season.
- As a team, Presbyterian had 43 kills, 42 assists, and 59 digs.
