RICHMOND, Ky. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team (6-7) dropped matches to Eastern Kentucky and Appalachian State on Friday afternoon (Sept. 18) in the Geri Polvino Invitational at Baptist Health Arena.
The Blue Hose fell 13-25, 10-25, 15-25 to the Colonels before dropping a 14-25, 14-25, 23-25 contest to the Mountaineers to finish the day.
Meredith Reisman led the Blue Hose in the afternoon with nine total blocks. Offensively, Anisa Dorlouis recorded 10 kills, while Reisman registered eight.
MATCH ONE – HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE – EASTERN KENTUCKY 25, PC 13
- A kill from Julia Yurkovich kicked off the match before Eastern Kentucky rattled off six straight points to establish control of the opening frame. The Colonels continued to extend their lead, grabbing a 17-8 advantage over the Blue Hose.
- Meredith Reisman contributed a block and a kill for PC late in the set, but it was the Colonels that struck first to begin the afternoon. Eastern Kentucky took the opening set 25-13 to start the match.
SET TWO – EASTERN KENTUCKY 25, PC 10
- The Colonels started off strong again to begin the second set, claiming three of the first four points of the frame. Kills from Kaylie Bourn, Reisman, and Anisa Dorlouis kept PC within striking distance early down 7-6.
- However, Eastern Kentucky separated from the Blue Hose in the middle of the frame, using a 12-2 run to pull away. The Colonels went on to grab the second set 25-10 to take a 2-0 lead in Richmond.
SET THREE – EASTERN KENTUCKY 25, PC 15
- Eastern Kentucky continued to pour it on in the third, building an 11-3 lead to begin the set. A kill by Reisman and a block by Courtney Williams helped PC inch closer, but Eastern Kentucky maintained a big lead.
- Late in the set, Kaylie Bourn and Reisman heated up for the Blue Hose, recording two kills apiece. In the end, the Colonels closed out the match, taking the third 25-15 to pick up a 3-0 win.
MATCH ONE NOTABLES
- This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
- Meredith Reisman led the Blue Hose with six kills and six total blocks.
- Reisman's six blocks are one short of her season-high.
- Kaylie Bourn matched her season-high with four kills.
- Keira O'Donnell recorded a season-high six digs. She also posted her first kill in a PC uniform.
- Courtney Williams added four blocks for Presbyterian. As a team, PC finished the match with nine.
MATCH TWO – HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE – APP STATE 25, PC 14
- Appalachian State started the afternoon with a narrow lead, going ahead 9-7 in the early going. Dorlouis and McHatten jump-started the PC offense with multiple kills. Back-to-back attack errors by the Mountaineers evened the set at nine before App State went on a run.
- The Mountaineers claimed three points in a row and began to separate, building a six-point advantage up 18-12. App State closed out the set shortly after, taking a 1-0 lead.
SET TWO – APP STATE 25, PC 14
- Presbyterian stayed right with App State early, tying the set at five after a block by Williams and Reisman. PC remained close, but the Mountaineers inched ahead to go up 9-6.
- A kill by Brittney Daphnis kept the Blue Hose within three down 13-10 before the Mountaineers started to pull away. App State closed out the set on a 12-4 run to claim a 2-0 lead over Presbyterian.
SET THREE – APP STATE 25, PC 23
- The third set was a nail-biter, featuring 12 ties and nine total lead changes. Dorlouis helped Presbyterian begin the frame with momentum with a kill, giving PC a 3-1 lead. App State responded to retake the lead, and the two teams began to go back-and-forth.
- A service ace by McHatten gave PC a 12-10 advantage in the middle of the set. The Mountaineers took the lead back before an attack error put the Blue Hose ahead again up 17-16.
- App State grabbed the momentum late in the set to close out the afternoon, going up 23-19. Kills from Dorlouis and Daphnis sparked one more rally, but the Mountaineers won on their third match point.
MATCH TWO NOTABLES
- This was the second meeting between the two teams in PC's DI era.
- Anisa Dorlouis and Emma McHatten powered the Blue Hose offensively, each recording seven kills.
- At the net, Meredith Reisman and Courtney Williams led the way, posting three blocks apiece.
- Reagan Hare logged season-highs in assists (9) and digs (5).
- Defensively, Celimar Hoyos registered 12 digs to lead Presbyterian.
- Keira O'Donnell made her first start of the season.
