GREENVILLE, S.C. – A longstanding non-conference rivalry between two schools separated by less than 60 minutes, the Presbyterian College women's soccer team heads to Furman on Thursday for a 7:00 opening kick.

Just three matches lay ahead for the Blue Hose until Big South opponents enter the equation, continuing a four-match road swing after returning from North Dakota earlier this week.

PC has played the Paladins every single season since converting to Division I in 2008. The last time that head coach Matt Smith sent his troops to Greenville two years ago, the result was a 2-1 Presby win.

Both teams registered a shutout in their last effort (Furman against UNC Asheville, PC earning a scoreless draw at North Dakota State). Tomorrow will be the 18^th meeting in this series since the Blue Hose joined the D-I ranks.

SCOUTING THE PALADINS
 

- Each of Furman's last four matches have resulted in one party being held to zero points: a loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks mixed in between lopsided wins over North Greenville and Bob Jones, and the aforementioned Asheville match.

- Senior midfielder Bri Pinasco dropped in her fourth goal of the season to defeat UNC Asheville in the 50^th minute, the true difference-maker in a contest where total shots were almost even.

- Led by head coach Andrew Burr (who has been in this role for nearly three decades), the 'Dins were tied with ETSU for second place in the preseason Southern Conference Coaches Poll.

- Furman has advanced to the SoCon Semifinals in each of the last three years, coming up short on each occasion by a single point. Samford eliminated them in both 2024 and 2025, scoring a penalty-kick in the 107^th minute last year to win in double overtime.

- The Paladins have won 20 combined matches in the two years prior to now, although they were bested by PC on their own turf during Smith's first season: a tiebreaking longshot from Gwen Keiser in the 65^th minute which ended Furman's five-game winning streak in the series.

- Presbyterian traversed over 1,400 miles for their last two matches against North Dakota and North Dakota State, falling in the former by a 2-1 count and turning in a nil-nil tie in the latter thanks to rookie Alexa Garcia's season-high seven saves.

- PC bent but didn't break in Sunday's tussle with NDSU, only able to acquire one shot-on-goal but staying at zeroes on the scoreboard with Garcia carrying the torch.

- She was selected the Big South Freshman of the Week for her preventative efforts, giving the Blue Hose four weekly-awards from the conference already in less than a full month.

- Garcia has turned back 84 percent of shots that come in her direction, holding an 0.75 goals-against average. Both of those figures are currently leading all keepers in the Big South, as she has played all 360 minutes thus far.

- PC is led offensively by sophomore Maddie Smith, one of seven players in the league who has scored at least three times. Emilia Lieber, Katy Verdery, and Julija Poplasen join the goal-scoring list for Smith's unit.
