CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team (5-3) dropped its first home contest of the season on Tuesday night (Sept. 8), suffering a three-set 19-25, 13-25, 23-25 defeat to Charleston at the Templeton Center.
Emma McHatten led the Blue Hose with nine kills, while Brittney Daphnis pitched in six. Anisa Dorlouis added 17 assists for Presbyterian to go along with eight digs.
Defensively, Courtney Williams and Meredith Reisman powered PC, each recording three blocks respectively. Daphnis logged two as well.
SET ONE – CHARLESTON 25, PC 19
- The Cougars surged ahead to begin the match, building a 6-2 lead out of the gate. A kill from Julia Yurkovich helped PC cut the lead to one.
- Charleston went back up four before a kill from Anisa Dorlouis kept PC within striking distance down 12-9.
- The Cougars answered with a big run to separate from the Blue Hose. Charleston used a 9-3 run to take a commanding 21-12 lead in the set. Three kills from Brittney Daphnis helped cut the deficit to five, but Charleston grabbed the opening set in the end.
SET TWO – CHARLESTON 25, PC 13
- Charleston sprinted out to the lead again in the second set, taking seven of the first 10 points in the frame.
- Courtney Williams pulled the Blue Hose within three before Charleston embarked on another big run.
- The Cougars used an 8-2 run to pull away, ultimately taking the second set 25-13 to go ahead 2-0 in Clinton.
SET THREE – CHARLESTON 25, PC 23
- Presbyterian responded in the third set, winning the first three points of the frame. Charleston took the lead 8-6, but Presbyterian answered with an 8-1 run of its own to take its biggest lead of the night. Emma McHatten played a huge role in the run, producing two kills.
-The Cougars got right back in it, closing the gap to just two. Late in the set, Charleston tied the frame at 19 apiece before a kill by Daphnis put the Blue Hose back in front.
- PC led by as many as two down the stretch, but Charleston claimed the final three points of the frame to clinch a three-set victory.
NOTABLES
- This was the fourth meeting between the two teams in the PC Division I era.
- Anisa Dorlouis recorded 17 assists for PC. She has gone over 15 assists in every match this season.
- Dorlouis reached the 1,000 assist mark for her career at PC, becoming the ninth player in the team's DI history to record 1,000 assists for the Blue Hose.
- Meredith Reisman and Courtney Williams finished the night with three blocks apiece. They have each logged at least three blocks in six of PC's eight matches this year.
- Sophia Verdicchio posted her first collegiate service ace.
