Several Blue Hose Earn Postseason Football Accolades

The Big South Conference announced its Football All-Conference Team this afternoon with four Presbyterian College athletes being honored.  Michael Ruff (Whitmire, S.C.) made the list as a kick returner, while Donelle Williams (Starke, Fla.) and LJ Perry (Augusta, Ga.) garnered honors as Linebackers.  Breyon Williams (Lancaster, S.C.) was named to the All-Academic Team as well.

College Sports Madness also released its Big South All-Conference Team with Tim Fowler (Aynor, S.C.), Ruff, Williams (Donelle), Arthur Williams (Baxley, Ga.), Cedric Byrd (Tyrone, Ga.), Perry and Patrick Morgano (Greenville, S.C.) being honored.

Ruff, who was named to the first-team, was fifth in the league in all-purpose yards with 99.4 a game and led the Big South in kick returns with 23.1 a carry, was second in kick returns (31) and second in kick return yards (715).  The senior returned the opening game kick-off against Brevard 92 yards for a touchdown.  It was the longest in PC's Division I history and the first score from the opening kick for the Blue Hose.  He finished with over 100 all-purpose yards for the game (109), earning him College Football Performance Awards National Kickoff Returner of the Week, as well as Big South Special Teams Player of the Week.  Ruff will finish tops in PC's career category in kick return yards (1,895) and all-purpose yards (3,415).  This season he had six games with over 100 all-purpose yards.  Ruff was also named to the Second team College Sports Madness Big South All-Conference Offensive team

Williams (Donelle) was named to the second-team and was ranked third in tackles in the Big South in tackles with 103 and was just one of three league players and the only PC player with over 100 this season.  He was third in the league in tackles by linebackers.  He had one pass breakup and one recovered fumble.  The 2011 Big South Freshman of the Year had three games with double-digit tackles, including 16 against Charleston Southern, 15 at VMI and 14 at Gardner Webb.  The linebacker recorded 12 solo tackles against Charleston Southern and 12 assisted tackles at VMI.  Williams, who was named second team College Sports Madness Big SOuth All-Conference Defensive team, led the team in total tackles, as well as solo and assisted.  He also paced the team in tackles in seven games this season.

Perry, who garnered second-team honors, ranked 15th in the conference in tackles with 5.8 a game.  He had two PBUs and 5.5 tackles for a loss, including one for a loss of six against Brevard.  The linebacker was second on the team in tackles with 63, tied for third in solo tackles and was second in assisted tackles.  He picked up his second career interception at Davidson and ran it back 66-yards for his first career TD and the first score for PC in the game.  Perry, who was also recently named to the third team College Sports Madness Big South All-Conference Defensive team, was just one of three league players with a touchdown returned for a TD.

Williams (Breyon) played in eight games this season for the Blue Hose.  The Redshirt Freshman recorded 10 total tackles, including five at Georgia Tech and three against Liberty.  Of his 10 total, eight were solo tackles.  He posted one tackle for a loss of four yards against the Yellow Jackets.  Williams will major in business administration and carries a 3.31 GPA.

Byrd, who was named College Sports Madness third team defensive back and punt returner, was fourth in the league in punt return average (6.7), fifth in punt returns (12) and sixth in punt return yards (80).  He was also 16th in the Big South in tackles with 5.7 a game.

Morgano led the team in punting with a total of 65 punts, 15 of which were inside the 20 and 7 of which were past 50 yards.  He posted the longest punt of his career with a 69-yard punt against Liberty this season.  The senior was third in the Big South in punting with 38.6 yards a punt, first in number of punts (65) and first in yards punted with 2,510.  He was tops in the PC Division record books in punts (240), yards (9,425) and punt average (48.0).

Fowler had one tackle on the season and helped the team gain 1,305 total rushing yards this season.  The Redshirt Junior was part of an offensive line that allowed seven rushes of over 20 yards this season, as well as 13 rushing touchdowns.  This season the team averaged 3.9 yards a rush and 118.6 yards per game.

Williams (Arthur) played in all 11 games this season and recorded 33 catches, including seven for 119 yards and one touchdown against Furman.  He finished with two TDs this year, the other coming in a 39-yard catch against Brevard.  He ended 2012 with 359 reception yards.
