CLINTON, S.C.- Freshman Katlin Moore led four PC players in double figures with 15 points in Presbyterian College's 68-64 loss to Big South Conference foe UNC Asheville at the Templeton Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Blue Hose drop to 1-16 on the season with the loss, while UNC Asheville returns back to the .500 mark with a record of 8-8.
Moore knotted the game at 64-64 with 2:18, hitting a jumper that banked off the glass.
After a series of missed shots by each team a jumper by Chioma Okoli gave UNCA the lead with 32 seconds remaining. The Blue Hose missed an opportunity to tie the game on the ensuing possession before the Bulldogs moved the lead to three points on a successful Kendall Shepard free throw.
Following a miss and errant pass on the rebound, Kendall Shepard iced the game with three seconds remaining with a free throw to earn UNCA the victory.
PC's Lea Smith (Marion, N.C.) had 12 points in the loss. Bridget Takach (Chapin, S.C.) scored 11 points in the game for PC and sophomore center Taylor Price added 10 points for the Lady Blue Hose.
Freshman Chelsea Wright (Atlanta, Ga.) led PC with 11 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. Smith pulled down nine in the contest.
The best shooting performances came from Price (4-for-4) and Takach, who hit 5-of-9 from the field and 1-of-2 from beyond the arc. Starting senior guard Amy Jones (Warthen, Ga.) scored nine points on a 4-of-9 shooting performance.
UNC Asheville countered with four players in double figures. Jessica Monroe (15 points) tied Moore for game-high honors, while adding 10 boards for the game's only double-double.
Kendall Shepard (12 pts.), Ana Baker (11 pts.) and Arescia Moore (10 pts.) rounded out the scoring leaders for the Bulldogs.
The Lady Blue Hose finished by hitting 43.1 percent (28-of-65) of their shots from the floor, scoring 40 points in the paint. UNC Asheville countered by converting 23-of-61 field goal attempts (37.7 percent).
Presbyterian converted 13-of-27 (48.1 percent) of their field goals in the first half, marking the second time in as many games that the Blue Hose have reached the 40 percent plateau in the opening half.
The Lady Blue Hose will stay home to play in the first game of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader at the Templeton Center with a game against Big South Conference preseason favorite Radford at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
