PC-HPU Box Score
CLINTON, S.C. ? Presbyterian College's men's soccer team picked up its first ever positive result in a Big South Conference game in its 2-2 double overtime tie with High Point on Wednesday evening at Martin Stadium.
The tie snaps a five-game skid for the Blue Hose as they had not tallied a positive result since claiming a 3-1 victory over USC Upstate on Sunday, Sept. 28. PC is now 2-11-2 overall and 0-5-1 in Big South Conference games.
High Point concluded its efforts on Wednesday evening with a 6-6-2 record, which includes a 2-2-1 mark in Big South play.
PC looked to be en route to its first league win of the season in the contest with a 2-0 lead in the second half, but High Point scored the final two goals in the game to force overtime and the eventual tie.
Both teams had a couple of chances in the overtime periods, but neither could find the back of the net.
Yinka Salaam (London, England/Kingston) acquired the first goal of the match for PC at the 36:26 mark when he deflected in a perfectly placed corner from teammate Chris Brophy (Glasgow, Scotland/Cumbernauld). The goal was the second for Salaam in as many games.
After going into halftime on top 1-0, PC extended its lead in the first 15 minutes of the second half when Sam Eastridge (Kingsport, Tenn./Dobyns-Bennett) netted his second goal of the 2008 campaign in the 59th-minute. Eastridge was assisted by Stevenson Gravlee (Columbus, Ga./Brookstone).
High Point was able to cut the Blue Hose lead to one when Karo Okiomah opportunistically was able to place an open ball in the box into the back of the net. Will Stewart picked up the equalizer for the Panthers when he headed in a corner kick from teammate Matt Tuttle in the 84th-minute.
High Point had a hefty shot advantage in the game, taking 25 shots compared to PC's 12. High Point forced Blue Hose goalkeeper William Redmond (Greenville, S.C./Greenville) into six saves in 110 minutes between the pipes.
The Blue Hose now have one day off before traveling to Davidson, N.C. next to face off against the SoCon's Davidson at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24. The Davidson match is the beginning of the final four matches of the year for PC.
