PC-WESTERN CAROLINA: The Blue Hose will face off against their second consecutive opponent from the state of North Carolina and the Southern Conference on Saturday at home against Western Carolina. The game will mark the second meeting between the two institutions on the gridiron in as many years.

BEEN A WHILE: PC has not beaten a team in the SoCon the time that they played since a 17-10 win over Furman in Greenville, S.C. during the 1979 season.

HOME SWEET HOME: PC has now won six consecutive home games after their win over Fayetteville State. The six consecutive home victories is a new Bailey Memorial Stadium record, besting the five straight home wins that the 2005 South Atlantic Conference champion Blue Hose accomplished during the regular season before falling to Central Arkansas in the NCAA Division II Playoffs. PC has not lost at Bailey Memorial Stadium since a 14-9 loss to Wingate on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006. PC started its current five-game home winning streak with a 28-7 victory over NCAA Divison II power Carson-Newman on Oct. 28, 2006. New Bailey opened its doors during the 2002 season.

NOT FAR OFF: PC's six straight home wins is only four games off of the current longest winning streak in the FCS, which ironically is owned by one of their Big South brethren in Liberty. The Flames have currently won 10 games in a row at home. The Big South record for most home wins consecutively is 12 and it is jointly held by Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern.

STRONG FOUR YEARS: The Blue Hose 2008 senior class has experienced a great deal of success inside the friendly confines of Bailey Memorial Stadium. This year's senior class has gone 12-3 at home entering this week's home tilt against the SoCon's Western Carolina.

BOB WATERS AWARD DAY: Saturday's game against Western Carolina is Bob Waters Award Day at Bailey Memorial Stadium. The Bob Waters Award is presented to graduates of Presbyterian College who have exhibited outstanding leadership and service as coaches and who personify the qualities possessed by this distinguished alumnus. The 2008 Bob Waters Award recipients are University of North Carolina Men's Tennis Coach Sam Paul (PC '83) and Wingate University Women's Basketball Coach Barbara Frady Nelson (PC '85). Presbyterian College and the Scotsman Club established the Bob Waters Award in 1987 to honor the former Blue Hose and National Football League quarterback. The President of the Student Body and All-American Quarterback graduated from PC in 1960 and led the Blue Hose to the Tangerine Bowl. After five years in the NFL, the San Francisco 49er switched his attention to coaching. He had stints at PC and Stanford as an assistant coach before taking on the head coaching position at Western Carolina University. In 20 seasons at the helm of the football program, he guided the Catamounts to 116 victories, produced 13 All-Americans, and 54 first-team All-Southern Conference selections. His courageous fight against Lou Gehrig's Disease was recognized throughout the country, specifically in Sports Illustrated. He succumbed to the disease May 29, 1989, at the age of 50.

PC-WESTERN CAROLINA SERIES: Saturday's home game against Western Carolina will mark the 17th all-time meeting between PC and Western Carolina. It is the first game in the series to be played in Clinton since 1976. The series is currently tied at 8-8 after the Catamounts' 33-20 win over the Blue Hose last season. Western Carolina is currently in the midst of a seven-game winning streak in the series. The Blue Hose have not defeated the Catamounts since 1969 when they downed Western Carolina 28-17 in Cullowhee. The series began in 1950 and the Blue Hose won eight of the first nine contests before WCU began its seven-game winning streak in 1970 with a 28-21 win over the Blue Hose.

PC-WCU IN CLINTON: Western Carolina leads the overall series in Clinton at 4-3, while the Blue Hose currently hold the advantage in the series in Cullowhee, 5-4.

COACHES: PC ? Presbyterian College head coach Bobby Bentley is in his second season as the mentor of the Blue Hose. Bentley is 7-7 all-time as a college head coach. Bentley has guided the Blue Hose to a perfect 4-0 record at home in his two years as head coach. WESTERN CAROLINA ? Dennis Wagner is in his first season as the head coach at Western Carolina after taking over the program in the offseason after three seasons as the Offensive Line coach at Nebraska. Wagner, who was previously the head coach at Wayne State (Neb.) from 1989-96, is 45-39-1 as a head coach. He is 1-2 as the head coach of the Catamounts.

WESTERN CAROLINA AGAINST THE BIG SOUTH: Western Carolina is 30-16 all-time versus current members of the Big South Conference. The Blue Hose are Western Carolina's second consecutive Big South foe as they fell 19-16 at home last week to No. 25 Liberty. Here is how WCU currently stacks up against Big South opposition: Gardner-Webb (2-2); Liberty (3-3); Presbyterian (8-8); VMI (17-3). In a little bit of a sidenote, the most points that a Western Carolina team has ever given up to a current Big South team came at the hands of a the Blue Hose when PC downed the Catamounts 44-6 during the 1952 season. The 38 point margin of defeat was also the largest for a WCU football team against a current Big South team.

NOT SHUT OUT: It has been a while since the Blue Hose have been shut out by their opposition. PC has not been shut out in its last 21 games. The last time a Blue Hose team did not score in a game came during the 2006 season when Elon bested the Blue Hose 28-0. Coastal Carolina currently holds the Big South record for most games with a point. The Chanticleers have now scored in all 59 games in their history.

BUTLER KEEPS DOING IT: Terrance Butler's touchdown reception gave him a touchdown in all three of PC's games so far in 2008. It marked the second time in 2008 that he scored PC's opening touchdown of a game as he also scored PC's opening touchdown in the season opener against Wofford.

RETURN TO SENDER: Just one week after entering the Big South record books with a 67-yard interception return, PC's Bo Tribble etched his name into the Big South record books again with a 75 yard fumble return for a touchdown. Tribble's 75 yard return is the fifth-longest in Big South history.

RETURN ENGAGEMENT: Tribble's 75-yard touchdown on a fumble return was the first for the Blue Hose since Chetyuane Reeder (Clinton, S.C./Clinton) returned a fumble 78 yards for a touchdown in PC's game with Charleston Southern in 2007.

LIVE AND ON THE EDGE: PC's home game against Western Carolina will be able to be viewed live on the Internet on the Big South's The Edge platform. The cost for a single game is $5.95. For more information, please visit www.BigSouthSports.com.

PC LAST TIME OUT: Presbyterian College fell 66-12 to 18th-ranked Elon at Rhodes Stadium. Linebacker Chris Bowman (Conway, S.C./Conway) led the Blue Hose in the game, tying for game-high honors with freshman teammate Justin Bethel (Blythewood, S.C./Blythewood) with eight total tackles. Bowman had a game-best 3.0 tackles-for-loss. He had one sack in the game and seven of his tackles were solo. Bethel had five solo tackles in the game en route to the eight total tackles. Clifton Evans (Winnsboro, S.C./Fairfield Central) recorded a sack in the loss to the Phoenix. Offensively, PC was led by quarterback Tim Webb (Lugoff, S.C./Lugoff-Elgin), who was 20-for-35 in the game for 149 yards. Webb had one touchdown. Running back S.J. Worrell (Madison, Ga./Morgan County) returned from injury on Saturday to finish with a team-best 45 yards on the ground. He had a team-high five catches. Robbins had a long return of 39 yards. Bo Williamson led the Elon attack in the game, ending the game with 287 all-purpose yards. Williamson tallied 167 yards receiving and two touchdowns. He returned three kickoffs for 106 yards and he had one punt return for 14 yards. Elon quarterback Scott Riddle was 23-for-33 for 386 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Elon had 667 yards of total offense in the game, while the Blue Hose finished with 185 yards of total offense.

THE MOST: S.J. Worrell's 12 catches against Wofford were the most receptions under Bentley. Worrell, Terrance Butler and Larry Thomas all had 10 catches in a single game for PC in 2007. Worrell now has two games in his career where he has hauled in 10 or more catches. Worrell had 10 catches in PC's overtime win over Coastal Carolina last season.

BY GEORGE: George Mathis led the Blue Hose rushing attack in the win over Fayetteville State, rushing for 60 yards. The 60 yards accumulated by Mathis in the game were the most by the senior since he rushed for 64 yards in the Blue Hose victory over VMI on Oct. 13, 2007.

THE BEGINNING: Sophomore running back Travis Caldwell tallied his best game in a Blue Hose uniform in the Fayetteville game, obtaining the first rushing touchdown of his career in the fourth quarter. The touchdown was the go-ahead touchdown for the Blue Hose in the game.

BO RETURNS: Bo Tribble's 67-yard interception return vs. Fayetteville State in the first quarter was the fifth-longest interception return in Big South history.

STEELE HOSE: Phil Steele's National Preview Magazine recently named three Blue Hose Football players to their 2008 Preseason All-Big South teams. PC's Terrance Butler, Adam McKinney and Bryson Summers were all named to Phil Steele's All-Big South Second Team. Butler (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) concluded his junior year last season by ending with the sixth-most yards in the FCS with 1,072 yards receiving. It was one of three categories in which Butler ranked in the top 20 in the nation. Butler also finished the year 10th in the country in receiving yards per game at an average of 97.45 per outing, while he was 20th in the nation in receptions per game with an average of 5.91 caught per PC contest. Butler's exploits on the gridiron earned him 2007 Sports Network Honorable Mention All-America accolades. His honor marked the first All-America honor for the Blue Hose at the FCS level. McKinney (Augusta, Ga.) returns for his senior season coming off a 2007 season in which he recorded 41 total tackles, which included four sacks. The slated starter at right defensive end for the Blue Hose in 2008, McKinney also had 7.0 tackles-for-loss last season. McKinney was named to the preseason FCS All-Independent by Phil Steele's preview magazine prior to the start of the 2007 season. Summers (West Columbia, S.C.) finished second in the Big South Conference in punting last year with an average of 38.6 yards per punt. Summers booted a 51 yard punt in the Western Carolina contest for his longest punt of the 2007 season. Summers was also named to the preseason FCS All-Independent team in 2007 by Phil Steele's preview magazine.

WEBB CONTINUES TO BREAK RECORDS: Tim Webb set two new Big South single-game records in PC's season opener against 13th-ranked Wofford. Webb was 37-for-56 passing against the Terriers, breaking the Big South record for completions and attempts in a game. The Lugoff, S.C. native and Lugoff-Elgin High School product negated the previous high of 34 pass completions set by Charleston Southern's Eli Byrd in 2007 against North Greenville. Webb's 56 attempts surpassed Byrd's previous record of 54 set in the same CSU game against the Crusaders. PC's single game-high for most pass attempts in a game is 70, set by former Blue Hose standout quarterback Todd Cunningham, who attempted 70 passes in PC's 48-41 win over former South Atlantic Conference rival Tusculum in the 2001 season.

FULLY INCORPORATED: The Big South Conference Athletic Directors voted in late July to allow Presbyterian College football student-athletes to become eligible for postseason All-Conference awards during the 2008 season. This new mandate by the Big South Conference will allow PC to be entitled to earn All-Conference accolades in 14 varsity sports during the 2008-09 school year. The Big South Conference does not sponsor men's and women's lacrosse.

THE ROAD TO STONY BROOK: The All-Conference eligibility for its football student-athletes was not the only accomplishment picked up by PC Director of Athletics Dr. William B. "Bee" Carlton and PC Head Coach Bobby Bentley in late July. Originally not scheduled to play new Big South Conference foe Stony Brook until 2011, Bentley and Carlton were able to work out a scheduling arrangement with Stony Brook Athletic Director Jim Friore and SBU Head Coach Chuck Priore to add the Seawolves to the Blue Hose football schedule in 2009 and 2010. The newly scheduled games allow Blue Hose football team to compete against every Big South football-playing member beginning in 2009. The Blue Hose will now travel to Stony Brook on Oct. 3, 2009, while the Seawolves will visit Bailey Memorial Stadium for the first time on Oct. 2, 2010.

ELIGIBLE IN 2009: The newly scheduled contests with Stony Brook now allow the Blue Hose to become eligible for the regular season Big South Conference football championship beginning in 2009. Eligible for the regular season championship in all of its other 13 varsity sports that the Big South sponsors in the 2008-09 school year, PC will now become officially eligible for regular season championships and All-Conference honors and awards in every sport sponsored by the Big South beginning with the 2009-10 school year. The Blue Hose are not eligible to compete in either a conference tournament or an NCAA Division I tournament until the 2011-2012 school year, except for PC men's tennis and softball. PC men's tennis and softball are being placed on the "fast-track" allowed by NCAA regulations that permit two Olympic sports to be eligible for championships after only two transitional seasons. The PC men's tennis and softball programs will both be eligible to play in the Big South Conference Tournament and advance to the NCAA Championships in the spring of 2010. Overall, the 2008-09 school year will be the second year of PC's transition into NCAA Division I athletics. The Blue Hose are scheduled to receive full NCAA Division I status in 2011-12. All PC teams at the time will become eligible for Conference and NCAA postseason play and awards. Also in the 2011-12 school year, PC will become officially included in all NCAA Division I statistical categories.

IT'S ALL ACADEMIC: The 2007 Presbyterian College football team had a league-high 38 student-athletes chosen to the 2007-08 Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll. To be named to the Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better for the recently-completed academic year.

GOING BIG: The Blue Hose were not officially eligible to be included in the Big South Conference standings in 2007, but the Blue Hose finished the year 2-2 against their future league foes. The Blue Hose picked up league wins over VMI and Coastal Carolina in 2007.

A FIRST: The Blue Hose ended their first FCS season in 2007 against first time opponents a perfect 5-0 with victories over Pikeville, NCCU, VMI, Coastal Carolina and Chowan.

PRESEASON ALL-STATE: Gridcoach Sports South Carolina Preseason Collegiate Football Annual recently released its 2008 preseason All-State team and PC had six student-athletes named to either the first or second team. Terrance Butler (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and Tim Webb (Lugoff, S.C.) were both named to the first team offense, while Antwan Thomas (Hawkinsville, Ga.) was chosen to the first team defense. Jesse Painter (Watkinsville, Ga.) was named to the second team offense and Adam McKinney (Augusta, Ga.) was selected to the second team defense. Sophomore Cam Miller (Lyman, S.C.) was named to the second team as a placekicker.
