MT. PLEASANT, S.C. ? The Presbyterian College women's soccer
team scored two goals and registered five shots on goal in the second half
against the College of Charleston at Patriots Point Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Despite PC's offensive rally, the Blue Hose dropped a 3-2 decision to the
Cougars.
The College of Charleston (4-0-0) came out firing as
midfielder Megan Manthey drilled one into the upper right corner of the net in
the 16th minute of action. The Cougars widened their lead with goals by
midfielder Julie Romanik and Christian Patton, both off assists by Christy
Barrow, to end the first half with a 3-0 advantage.
PC (0-3-0)
dominated the second half, outshooting Charleston
6-2 and forcing seven fouls by the Cougars. Senior midfielder Christy Howard (Lilburn, Ga./Parkview)
capitalized on a cross from junior Tricia Bryan (Pawley's Island,
S.C./Waccamaw), scissor kicking it from beyond the 18-yard line in the 59th
minute give the Blue Hose their first goal of the season.
Senior
Sheldon Robinson (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest) scored 14 minutes later when
her shot from outside the box slipped through Cougars' goalie Erin Smith's
arms. PC made five other shots on goal throughout the match, with sophomore
Stefani Thacker (Indianapolis,
Ind./Hamilton Southeastern)
leading the team with three.
Junior
goalkeeper Abby Young (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) made two saves in her third
career start with the Blue Hose.
PC next
travels to Nashville, Tenn. To face Lipscomb University
on Friday at 5 p.m.
