Radford, Va. -
For the second consecutive match a late goal doomed the Presbyterian College
women's soccer team. The Blue Hose
allowed the 86th minute winner against Radford to fall to 3-7 on the
season and 0-2 to open the conference season.
Radford improves to 5-6 and 2-0 in league play with the win.
"I am very proud of our players today," said head coach
Brian Purcell. "I thought we played
extremely well and worked very hard. We
were unfortunate not to get a win or a tie out of the match. They are the defending Big South Conference
Champions for a reason. For us to go
into their place in the second game of a road trip playing that well, it's just
heartbreaking for the players not to have anything to show for it."
The game winning goal came in the 86th minute
when the PC defense conceded a penalty kick which was converted on by Justine
Dugger.
Kate Baker logged the only two shots in the match for PC
with one on frame.
Abby Young started the match in goal for the Blue Hose and
made one save working the first half.
Sarah Beth Anderson replaced Young after the intermission and made six
more saves in the second half but allowed the goal from the penalty spot.
Corner kicks were tied 6-6 but Radford outshot the Blue Hose
11-2 in the match.
Purcell's team will return to Clinton to begin preparations
for Saturday's trip to UNC Asheville.
The Blue Hose take on the Bulldogs starting at 2 p.m.
