CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -
Presbyterian College women's basketball gained experience on Wednesday
afternoon, falling 92-37 to fourth ranked North Carolina at the Dean Smith
Center. The Blue Hose were paced by
Amanda Mills' ten points. PC falls to
0-6 while the Tar Heels improve to 4-0 on the season.
"I felt like we had a great defensive gameplan and we
executed it well over the first eight minutes," said head coach Ronny
Fisher. "Ultimately North Carolina's
size was a big difference in the game. I
want to thank Coach (Sylvia) Hatchell for scheduling us. She has been a big inspiration to the way we
have tried to build our team."
The Blue Hose came out of the gate ready to play as Amanda
Mills opened the game's scoring with a three-pointer just 17 seconds into the
game. A post basket from freshman Mariah
Pietrowski gave the Blue Hose the 5-3 lead which PC would take into the first
media timeout. It was the third time
this season that PC has led at that point in the game.
However, UNC built a 15 point lead lead coming out of the
timeout as PC went the next 9:26 without a field goal.
Mills had ten points and two rebounds to go with a steal and
an assist. Pietrowski notched nine
points as well.
Top rebounding honors went to Joi Holyfield with four along
with two steals.
Freshman Dria David had eight points, three steals and two
rebounds in the loss.
Ultimately, the difference came in the turnover
department. PC gave the ball away 36
times as compared with Carolina's 24.
The Blue Hose return to action on Sunday afternoon in
Winston-Salem with a 2 p.m. matchup against Wake Forest.
