FARMVILLE, Va. ? The Presbyterian College women's
lacrosse team dropped a 20-6 match Saturday afternoon to Longwood at the
Lancers' home field.
With the loss, the Blue Hose stand at 1-6 on the year while the Lancers improve
to 3-3 on the season.
PC was led by Katie Prisco and Jenna Handshoe, who each netted two goals.
Priscoe tallied a third point an assist. Laura Meade and Jordan Newberry
garnered a goal apiece.
A trio of Blue Hose student-athletes notched two ground balls. Jill Parker,
Megan Woodis and Newberry combined to account for 60 percent of head coach
Kristina Llanes' team's ground balls.
In goal,
Erin McBurnette played 49:38, notching six saves. Susan England played 10:22 and stopped two shots.
Longwood
jumped out to an early 1-0 lead 3:08 into the game with a goal by Carlie
Nethken. The Lancers would net the next three goals over a six-minute span,
jumping out to a 4-0 advantage.
Handshoe broke through the stiff defense at the 20:44 mark with PC's first goal of the
game.
After three minutes of solid play, the Lancers would get the goal back with a
Liz Sellmayer score off Page Farmer's assist. The home team would tack on
another goal 25 seconds later. In fact, after the PC score, Longwood would
tally the next 10 goals en route to a 14-1 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Blue Hose rose to the challenge. After a quick Longwood
goal to start the scoring at the 28:30 mark, Prisco would score for the Blue
Hose just over a minute later.
The goal by Prisco marked the start of a 3-0 run by PC. At the 23:19 mark, Handshoe would tally an
unassisted goal as would Prisco with 22 minutes to play, putting the score at
15-4.
A foul near the cage would give Nethken a free position goal with 20:58 to play, snapping the Blue Hose
scoring spree.
After another Longwood goal at 19:05, Prisco found a cutting Newberry
for a PC score at the 18:00 mark.
From there, the scoring would slow down immensely. Meade tacked on the last
score of the day for the visitors ta the 5:20 mark off a free position shot.
The Blue
Hose return to action Monday when they tangle with Long Island in a neutral site contest in Farmville, Va., at 3 p.m.
