FARMVILLE, Va. ? In the second game of the
National Lacrosse Conference Tournament, the Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team fell to
second-seeded Detroit Mercy 18-9.
The Blue Hose now stand at 2-11 on the season.
Kirstin
Stenoien and Laura Meade each tallied a team-high three points while Brittni
Dulaney and Jenna Handshoe both tallied two for PC.
Marie
Lisette-Dimitrew, Megan Woodis and Jordan Newberry all scored one goal apiece.
Dimitrew scooped up a team-best three ground balls. Meade grabbed a team-high
four draw controls while Newberry and Dulaney each collected three.
On the
defensive end, Alyson Whitley and Handshoe each forced two turnovers.
In goal,
Susan England notched eight saves while Erin McBurnette stopped five.
The contest
was low scoring in the early going as PC held the Titans to just two goals over
the first 10 minutes of the game. After falling behind 3-0, Dulaney tallied an
unassisted score to put the Blue Hose on the board at the 18:25 mark.
Detroit
Mercy tallied another score at 16:49 before Stenoien and Dulaney posted
back-to-back goals in 63 seconds, pulling the team within one. However, the
Titans went on a 5-0 scoring run to break things open. The run spanned 8:15.
Head coach Kristina Llanes' team found the back of the net two consecutive
times, beginning with Stenoien's goal at 3:57 off a pass from Meade. Newberry
scored 50 seconds later to make the score 9-5.
After
Handshoe scored a goal with just under two minutes to play in the opening
stanza, PC did not find the back of the net again for 12 minutes. Trailing
13-6, Stenoien made a beautiful pass to Woodis, who promptly scored to cut the
deficit to six.
The Blue
Hose limited the Titans to just two goals over the next 10 minutes, but the PC
offense was unable to score during that time frame.
Meade and
Dimitrew scored the last two goals for PC, making the score 15-9 at that point.
The Blue
Hose take on Howard at 12 p.m., in the consolation game Sunday
afternoon.
