Clinton S.C. – Presbyterian College women's soccer took a 6-0 win over Erskine College in the PC's final tune-up match before the start of the 2009 regular season. The Blue Hose outshot the Flying Fleet,25-9 in the victory to improve to 2-0 in the preseason. The Hose will open up against Furman on Friday night at 7 p.m.
“I was pleased with our effort tonight,” said head coach Brian Purcell. “Erskine really took the game to us in the beginning but we did a good job making a lot of chances for ourselves and finishing them. We still have a lot of work to do in order to get ready for our first few matches.”
Stephanie Aaron opened the scoring on 16 minutes as she took a high looping shot that bested the Erskine keeper who was roaming too far outside her box. Two minutes later , Kate Baker made the PC lead 2-0 as she made a run off a Tricia Bryan pass.
In the 24th minute, Bryan scored a goal off a cross from Baker that went through the six-yard box. The partnership struck again after the intermission in the 52nd minute as Baker flicked on a punted ball from keeper Sarah Beth Anderson to initiate Bryan's run.
Kylie Mills found the goal in the 73rd minute to make the score 5-0. The match's final goal came in the 80th minute as Lauren Snyder was able to put away a mis-handled rebound off Britney Horton's shot.
PC will open up on Friday night on the road at Furman. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
