Clinton, S.C. - Presbyterian College fell, 2-1 on Saturday
night to Davidson in the final match before conference play begins on Wednesday
night. The Blue Hose dropped the
shootout to fall to 1-4-0 on the season while Davidson improves to 4-1-0 on the
year. PC enters Big South Conference
play on Wednesday night at home against Gardner-Webb.
"We started off slow today and got a great goal against the
run of play to open it," said head coach Bret Boulware. "We came out strong in second half and played
well throughout especially on the defensive end. But it was a defensive mistake that gave them
the result."
Davis Orders got PC off the mark in the 11th minute with his
first goal of the season. He bulged the
net from the top of the six yard box with a header from Juan Ocampo's free kick. The goal was Orders' was the third in his
career.
The Wildcats brought the match back to level terms on 14
minutes when Mark Millard scored an goal off on a shot from 15 yards. He was assisted on the play by Hunter Hayes.
The teams stayed level for the remainder of the first half
both teams looked dangerous to score throughout the second half.
The Wildcats scored the winner with 1:27 left on the clock
as Allen Page took advantage of a misplayed corner kick by the PC back
line. Charlie Reiter delivered the
corner kick and earned an assist on the play.
Davidson won 14 corners in the match while only conceding
three kicks. The shot chart went 17-14
to Davidson. PC committed eight fouls
while drawing 14 but picked up two yellow cards in the match.
Presbyterian College will return to the pitch on Wednesday
night as the conference season opens against Gardner-Webb. The match starts at 7 p.m. from PC's Martin Stadium. Fans not able to attend can view the match on
the Big South Network.
