RADFORD, Va. - Presbyterian College
women's basketball faltered in the first half but played tough in the waning
minutes en route to a 59-34 loss to Radford.
PC won the second period by outscoring Radford 29-28 after only scoring
five points in the first half.
The first half did not go the Blue Hose's way as PC (2-14,
1-3 BSC) made only one of their twenty attempts from the field. Mariah Pietrowski tallied PC's lone field
goal. The visitors were buoyed by
shooting 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the first half.
Coming out of the intermission, freshman Shonda Burnside
notched a layup to go along with a pair of free throws to help lift PC into
double digits at the 14:32 mark. She
would finish the game with a team-high 12 points.
The Blue Hose caught fire at the 9:51 mark when Pietrowski
got free underneath on consecutive trips by posting consecutive deuces.
Chelsea Parker bracketed the eight-minute media timeout with
a trey before the break and a jumper after.
The shot from downtown extended PC's consecutive games streak with a
basket from downtown to 83 straight games.
The buckets sparked a 17-6 run for the Blue Hose that
eventually cut the Highlander (5-11, 4-1 BSC) lead to 25 points.
Parker closed the game with nine points to set a new career
high. Pietrowski matched her with nine
points of her own.
The Blue Hose won the second half by outscoring the
Highlanders 29-28.
Monday's game concludes PC's Virginia swing. The Blue Hose return home for the season's
longest homestand which consists of six games over 15 days. The games at the Templeton Center begin on
Saturday afternoon when High Point comes to town for a 5 p.m. game. PC has had good results at home with a 2-1 record winning the last two.
