CLINTON, S.C. - The
Presbyterian College women's basketball team was unable to keep league leading
Gardner-Webb in check on Monday night, falling 80-39 to the Bulldogs at
home. Freshmen Shonda Burnside and Dria
David each scored eight points to lead the Blue Hose in scoring. Burnside paired it with a career high 11
rebounds.
During the game, PC's coaches, administration and game
management personnel worked barefoot as part of the Big South's "Barefoot for
Bare Feet" initiative to raise awareness for Samaritan's Feet, an organization
that raises money to give shoes to children in need. For more information, please visit www.samaritansfeet.org.
Gardner-Webb (17-3, 6-1 BSC) came out of the gates shooting
well, draining two-of-three from downtown and three-of-six from the field in
the first five minutes of the game to go out to a 12-4 lead. PC (2-16, 1-5 BSC) was two-of-four and
none-for-one from outside the same span with five turnovers.
The Blue Hose failed to find the basket until the 9:56 mark
when Chelsea Parker drained a three to cut the GWU lead to 20-7. The basket ended a 16-0 run which lasted
7:07. The three-pointer ended a 38:13
drought for the Blue Hose from behind the arc.
The teams went into the halftime break at 41-12 after GWU
sparked a 19-3 run over the half's final 8:02.
The Bulldog's Monique Hudson was the game's high scorer with ten at the
break. Burnside led the Blue Hose with
four at the intermission. Turnovers (19)
plagued the Blue Hose in the opening 20 minutes while the hosts only shot 5-17
(29 percent) from the field.
Coming out of the intermission, the Bulldogs didn't slow
down with a 15-5 run in the second half's first 6:28. The Blue Hose worked the lead down to 35
points at 9:28 before the Bulldogs worked it to their largest lead of 42 at 2:03.

scoring of 68.4 points per game while holding PC to seven points below their
season average of 46.3. The scoring was
a season low for the Blue Hose at home.

the game with 29 turnovers. Parker
closed the night on seven points, matched by fellow freshman Mariah Pietrowski.
