ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Presbyterian
College led by nine at half, but couldn't match UNC Asheville's sharp shooting
in the second half as the Bulldogs downed PC, 66-59. The loss snaps a three-game win streak for
the Blue Hose. Amanda Mills led the way
for PC with 16 points on the afternoon.
For the second-straight game, PC's (5-18, 3-7) defense
shined early, keeping UNC Asheville (7-17, 2-9) off the scoreboard until the
12:13 mark in the first period. The time
is significant because it was the same as Allen's first basket on Tuesday
evening. The Blue Hose led by nine when
the first basket went in.
Asheville answered back to knot the scores at 18-18 before
the Blue Hose initiated an 11-2 run down the stretch in the first half to take
a 29-20 margin into the intermission.
Out of the break, Asheville sparked a 21-2 run that erased
the nine-point Blue Hose lead and gave the Bulldogs a 10-point lead of their
own. The high-water mark for Asheville
came at the 13:30 point when the Bulldogs led 41-31.
The Blue Hose chipped away at the lead, bringing the lead to
just two points thanks to five points on just two trips from Mills. However, late three-point shooting and clutch
foul shots would help establish the final margin at seven points.
Kristen Stevens scored 15 points in the game while Dria
David accounted for 10 points and three steals.
Devin Fothergill and Chelsea Wright each had seven rebounds to pace PC
on the boards.
Asheville was 14-of-22 (64 percent) in the second half from
the field while the Blue Hose shot 11-of-26 (42 percent). Chioma Okoli scored a game-high 18 points to
lead the Bulldogs to victory.
The Blue Hose return home for a home matchup against North
Carolina Central on Tuesday afternoon. The
game is the front-end of a PC Basketball Doubleheader which starts at 5 p.m.
