CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College
women's basketball dropped a 57-56 squeaker to North Carolina Central on
Tuesday afternoon at the Templeton Center.
The loss drops PC to 5-19 on the season as PC's three-game home winning
streak comes to an end. Sophomore
Kristen Stevens led the way for PC with 16 points.
The Blue Hose
came out hot from the opening tip, outscoring the Eagles, 15-2 in the first
seven minutes of the game. Senior Lea
Smith had four of her ten points in that stretch. NC Central would rally to take their first
lead of the game with 2:31 remaining in the stanza. LaToya Bennett scored seven of her 13 points
to bring the Eagles even.
The Blue Hose
went into the intermission, trailing by just one point, 29-28.
The Eagles
took their lead to eight points on back-to-back three-pointers from Shenise
Blanks. Freshman Devin Fothergill
provided the answer as she drained a trey and picked off a pass, taking it the
other way for an easy two to cut the lead back to two points.
The Blue Hose
got the ball for their final possession with 31 seconds remaining in regulation. The Blue Hose matriculated the ball down the
floor and eventually to Amanda Mills who drove for a running jumper with three
seconds left. The ball rimmed out and
fell to the Eagles as the final horn went.
Freshman
Shonda Burnside matched her career high scoring with 12 points on the
night. She also matched fellow freshman
Dria David's team high rebounding of six.
David also added five steals to go with her four points. Freshman Mariah Pietrowski had six points in
the game.
The Blue Hose
return to conference play for the balance of the season. The stretch run of six games opens on
Saturday afternoon against Big South frontrunners Gardner-Webb. The game starts at 3 p.m.
