HIGH POINT, N.C. - The
Presbyterian College women's basketball team was unable to keep up with High
Point's hot shooting on Monday night, falling to the Panthers, 72-61. The Panthers (16-11, 9-5 BSC) shot 51.4
percent from the field in the first half and 47.5 percent overall to claim the 11
point win. The Blue Hose (5-21, 3-9 BSC)
on the other hand shot 28.9 percent in the first half and 31.3 percent overall
in the game.
Only PC's Kristen Stevens was able to get into double
figures scoring on the night with 15 points as the Blue Hose were plagued by 14
turnovers in the first half. In the
second half, however, PC cut the turnovers down to 8 to finish the night with
22 turnovers.
In the first half, PC went out to a quick four-point lead
before High Point erased the lead and went out to a five point lead with 11:59
left in the first. The advantage
remained stable until late in the period when the Panthers broke for a 13-5 run
to take a 16-point, 43-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.
High Point further extended their halftime lead to 27 points
with a 13-2 run to start the second stanza.
PC cut the lead down to 20 points at 6:52 on a three-pointer from
Chelsea Parker.
The lead eventually fell down to 11 points as PC outscored
High Point 34-29 in the second half.
Mariah Pietrowski had 13 rebounds in the game to lead the Blue
Hose on the boards. The freshman missed
her second career double-double by just two points as she put in eight points
on the night, all in the first half.
Amanda Mills had nine points on the night as all ten Blue Hose scored
points.
The Blue Hose registered a season high seven blocks on the
night with Pietrowski and Shonda Burnside each posting a pair of blocks.
The Blue Hose return home for their final home games of the
season on Saturday afternoon against Radford.
The game starts at 5 p.m. Senior
night will be on Monday as PC closes the home schedule against Liberty at 7
p.m.
