CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team's strong
second-half performance was not enough in the 18-4 loss Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Hose (1-7) had four players score a goal apiece. Kirstin Stenoien,
Jenna Handshoe, Lauren Lefeber and Marie-Lisette Dimitrew all found the back of
the net.
"We focused on the fundamentals in the second half and played well then," head coach Kristina Llanes said. "Lauren Lefeber played a great game for us and Katie Prisco did a good job on the attack."
The Bearcats (2-1) were led by Katie Kiriazoglou's three goals.
Trailing 13-0 to start the second period, Stenoien raced through the defense
and was able to play a beautiful shot that found the back of the net just 15
seconds in.
After a Bearcat score, Handshoe was fouled in the crease with just under 22
minutes remaining. She took a couple of steps and blasted the free position
shot past the keeper for PC's second tally of the day.
Just over a minute later, Lefeber was fouled inside the eight-meter stripe,
allowing her to take a free position shot. Lefeber connected on it to make the
score 14-3.
However, Cincinnati was able to keep the Blue Hose away from the goal for a few
minutes while the home team scored three consecutive goals for a 17-4 advantage
with 2:07 to play. Dimitrew and the rest of the team would not give up. She was
able to score her marker with 1:09 left on the clock.
PC scooped up 26 ground balls on the day and won nine draw controls.
For the game, Handhshoe led the team with four ground balls while Jill Parker
had three. Lefeber won a team-best two draw controls. Handshoe, Susie Branson
and Lefeber all caused a turnover.
Erin McBurnette notched five saves between the pipes while Susan England
managed four.
The Blue Hose will look to get back on track March 21 at Howard. The draw
control is slated for 4 p.m.
