DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team was led by
Jenna Handshoe's three points, but it was not enough in the 13-5 loss to
Davidson Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Hose now stand at 2-9 on the season and 1-2 in conference play while
the Wildcats improve to 5-6 on the year and 3-1 against conference competition.
In addition to Handshoe's two goals and one assist, Marie-Lisette Dimitrew
posted two scores while Jordan Newberry had a goal and Berkley Aiken tallied an
assist. Goalkeeper Erin McBurnette notched 17 saves on the day while also
scooping up a team-best five ground balls. Melinda Vasconcellos chipped in with
four ground balls as did Megan Woodis.
On the defensive front, Laura Meade forced two turnovers and Vasconcellos
forced one.
Davidson was able to keep PC off the scoreboard until the 15
th
minute of play. Handshoe was fouled in the crease, giving her a free position
attempt. She calmly beat the defense for her 24th goal of the year,
making the score 5-1.
Newberry tacked on her ninth goal of the year just 1:58 later at the 12:3 mark
of the first half on an unassisted play, bringing the visitors within three,
5-2.
However, Davidson scored two late goals in the final two minutes of the half,
extending the lead to five at 7-2 at the break.
The Wildcats increased their lead to nine with just 13:18 to play on Haley Cook's

th goal of the year, ending a 6-0 run by the home team that
spanned 18:14 going back to the first half of play.
Right after the draw control, Aiken found Dimitrew for a score, making the
margin eight at 11-3. With 10:06 to play, Dimitrew took a pass from Handshoe
for another score. The Blue Hose concluded their 3-0 run with 9:27 to play as
Handshoe accounted for a goal to make the score 11-5.
It marked the last goals for PC on the day as Davidson tacked on two goals with
just over five minutes of action remaining in the game to secure the 13-5
victory.
The Blue Hose won the battle of the draw controls 11-9 for the game.
PC returns to action Saturday, Apr. 10 at 2 p.m., when the team hosts Longwood.
