CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team fell to
Longwood by an 18-5 score Saturday afternoon in front of a solid Blue Hose fan
base at Old Bailey Stadium.
The Blue Hose now stand at 2-10 on the year while the Lancers improve to 5-6.
Leading the way for PC was Jordan Newberry and Katie Prisco, who each accounted
for two goals. Rookie Shannon Hartford tallied a goal while Brittni Dulaney
dished out an assist. Prisco also scooped up a team-best four ground balls.
Defensively, Erin McBurnette caused three turnovers to pace PC. However, she
netted a career-high 21 saves of 49 total shots by the visiting squad.
One of the storylines was the Longwood defense, which caused 13 turnovers. The
Lancers also held senior Jenna Handshoe without a point, marking the first time
in her career that she had not tallied at least an assist. It also snapped the

th-longest scoring streak in the nation.
The Lancers jumped out to a 7-0 advantage with 3:45 remaining in the first
half. Newberry broke up the shutout on a pass from Dulaney. Newberry reached
high to receive the pass, brought it down and fired a shot past Juli Liebig for
the score.
Longwood scored two quick goals to push the score to 9-1 before Newberry made a
magnificent move to break free from two defenders. She promptly rocketed the
shot past the keeper for her second goal of the day.
The Lancers tacked on five scores to open the second period despite solid
defense by the Blue Hose. In addition to McBurnette's solid play in goal, the
defense was able to disrupt the visiting team's attack on numerous occasions in
the final period of play.
PC tallied its third goal of the day when Prisco fired home a shot with 12:47
to play. Hartford followed her up with another score two minutes later.
With 1:24 to play, Prisco notched her second goal of the day, coming off a free
position attempt.
PC accounted for 14 clears to just 13 by Longwood. Each team connected on one
free position shot.
The Blue Hose return to action Apr. 14 against Belmont Abbey in Old Bailey
Stadium. The first draw control is slated for 4 p.m.
