CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team is set to
battle Liberty in a 1 p.m. match Saturday afternoon at Old Bailey Stadium. It
marks the next to last home game for the season for head coach Kristina Llanes'
team.
The contest has been designated as a "Pink Out" game in order to raise
awareness of breast cancer. The Blue Hose will be sporting pink jerseys at the
game and will also be honoring those who have fought cancer.
The match is slated as a conference match as PC (2-11, 1-2) will face off
against Liberty (1-9, 1-3) in a National Lacrosse Conference date.
The Flames' lone win of the season was a 17-16 victory at Howard in double
overtime. However, the squad has played well of late. Kristin Crowley leads the
first-year program with 20 goals and three assists. Lauren See has added 12
points on 11 goals and one assist. Camille Little, Rebekah Luetters and Mary
Huff are tied for the team lead with eight caused turnovers.
Leutters, the keeper who has played every minute between the pipes, also
garners a team-best 45 ground balls and has stopped 90 shots.
The Blue Hose are coming off a loss Wednesday afternoon to Belmont Abbey. PC
notched double figures in goals for the first time in four contests. The team
was led by Jordan Newberry and Jenna Handshoe, who each accounted for a
team-best three goals. Rachel Sweeney won a team-high four draw controls while
Erin McBurnette posted a career-high 22 saves and chipped in four caused
turnovers.
PC is looking for its second home win of the season, with the first a 13-11 win
over Bryant March 9.
For the year, Handshoe once again leads the team with 39 points, 28 of them
coming via goals. Brittni Dulaney has added 27 points on a team-best 15
assists. Katie Prisco (18 points), Newberry (18 points), Shannon Hartford (17
points), Lauren Lefeber (11 points) and Kirstin Stenoien (10 points) have all
recorded double figures on the year.
McBurnette has stopped a team-high 111 shots and has posted a .536 save
percentage this season. Melinda Vasconcellos has forced a team-best 15
turnovers while Newberry (14 caused turnovers) and Mary Honan (13 caused
turnovers) are just behind her.
