CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's tennis team took the No. 2
doubles match against Charleston Southern, but was unable to win any more
matches Wednesday afternoon in a hard fought Big South Conference contest.
The Blue Hose now stand at 4-13 on the season.
After the third-seeded duo of Susita Das and Brooke Pletcher defeated Megan
Davis and Daryl Thompson by an 8-3 count, Olivia McMillan and Virginia Waldron
teamed up to defeat Marija Dzakovic and Olga Makhova 8-5, evening the doubles
score at 1-1.
Paige Oelke and Heather Heusel pushed Angie Torres and Andrea Schutte to the
brink, but was unable to snag the top spot from Charleston Southern, falling
8-6.
Two of the singles matches were pushed to the limit, but the visiting team was
able to prevail in each of those contests.
At the No. 4 spot, Pletcher defeated Cara Caruso 7-6, 6-4. Fifth-seeded
Thompson nearly won the first set from Andrea Gonzalez, but dropped a hard-fought
7-5, 6-2 match.
Oelke won four points in the first set off Schutte, but was unable to carry the
momentum she had late in the first set in the second stanza, falling 6-2 at the
No. 2 position.
Third-seeded Davis lost 6-1, 6-2 to Dzakovic while No. 1 Heusel lost 6-0, 6-2
to Makhova.
Waldron lost a 6-2, 6-2 battle to Torres at the No. 6 slot.
The Blue Hose return to action Saturday afternoon at East Carolina. The match
is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
