CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's soccer team dropped a Thursday night contest to Charleston Southern in a spirited affair, 2-0.
PC moves to 2-10-2 on the year and 0-3-2 in Big South Conference play. Charleston Southern improves to 7-6-0 overall and 2-3-0 in league action.
Five different PC players tallied a shot on goal and Catie Smith (Greenville, S.C.) and Sara Simpson (Columbia, S.C.) led the squad with two shots each.
Goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson made 10 saves in the match, five in each half.
Charleston Southern struck early, as Toni Lashley cashed in on a loose ball in front 7:20 into the match to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead.
Keri O'Neill (Peachtree City, Ga.) put a shot on net in the 20th minute looking to even the score but Buccaneer goalkeeper Caitlin Cody made the save. Emily Boggus (Conyers, Ga.) offered a chance on goal as well but the Blue Hose could not find the net.
Anderson made four saves in a seven-minute span as the half wound down to keep Charleston Southern's lead at 1-0 heading into halftime.
Morgan Fragapane (Baltimore, Md.) gave PC one of its best chances of the game in the 49th minute. The senior fired a laser from outside the goal box that Cody pushed over the crossbar.
The Buccaneers scored its second and final goal shortly after. Olivia Urig sent in a long service from a free kick just inside midfield and Katelyn Faucette headed the ball off the hand of Anderson, off the crossbar and into the net. The 52nd minute goal put Charleston Southern ahead, 2-0.
Simpson worked to apply pressure deep in the Charleston Southern end and put a shot on goal in the 70th minute. Anderson continued to make saves to hold the gap at two but match belonged to the Buccaneers, 2-0.
PC returns to action on Saturday morning when the squad hosts Coastal Carolina at in a morning Homecoming tilt at 11 a.m.
