ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Presbyterian College women's soccer team battled UNC Asheville in a road contest looking for its first win in Big South Conference play, but the Bulldogs scored three goals to down the Blue Hose on Tuesday afternoon, 3-0.
PC moves to 2-9-1 on the year and 0-2-1 in league play. UNC Asheville improves to 3-9-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Big South.
Goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson (Grayson, Ga.) tied a season high with eight saves in 78:22 of action. Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) made two saves in relief.
Emily Boggus (Conyers, Ga.) and Kelly Kozera (Rome, Ga.) each tallied a shot on goal for the Blue Hose. Eight different PC players picked up a shot in the effort.
The Bulldogs struck quickly, scoring in the eighth minute. A Mary Kate Tucker pass sprang Amanda Knapp for a breakaway and Knapp converted to give UNC Asheville an early 1-0 lead.
Boggus tried to even up the score with a shot on net in the 23rd minute but the chance stayed out and UNC Asheville held its lead.
Kozera also challenged Bulldogs goalkeeper Heather Muller with a shot in the 35th minute. Muller made the save, however, and the teams headed into halftime with PC trailing, 1-0.
UNC Asheville added another score 4:20 into the second half as Amanda Dailor set up Ferriss Roberts for a Bulldog goal.
The PC attack aimed to cut into the deficit with three shots in the second stanza.
The Bulldogs scored once more in the 73rd minute. Leilani Halkiotis lifted a corner to the head of Kaitlyn Eckert and Eckert found the net, putting UNC Asheville ahead, 3-0.
Broadway made two saves in the final 10 minutes to keep the gap at three and the Blue Hose nearly scored as a Sara Simpson (Columbia, S.C.) shot hit the post and Jessica Kramer (Acworth, Ga.) put a shot wide, but PC could not pull any closer as the match ended in a 3-0 loss.
The Blue Hose return to Edens Field at Martin Stadium on Saturday for a matchup against Campbell at 7 p.m.
