HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Presbyterian College women's basketball team lost to the High Point Panthers on the road Monday night by a score of 85-43. The loss ended a two-game winning streak for the Blue Hose.
After leading by only seven points at the break, 38-31, the Panthers outscored the Blue Hose 47-12 in the second half. High Point forced 11 turnovers, blocked six shots, and outrebounded the Blue Hose 27-13 during the second half alone.
Both teams shot above 50 percent to start the game, but the Blue Hose cooled off during the second half, shooting 4-24, and ended the game 17-48 from the field (.354). Meanwhile the Panthers actually improved upon their first half potency and finished the game shooting .576.
Shamia Brown scored 17 points while Cheyenne Parker had impressive 17 rebounds and nine points to lead the Panthers. Taylor Tremblay and Lateisha Dean both contributed 11 points each to round out the players in double-figures.
Mariah Pietrowski (Elizabethton, Tenn.) led the Blue Hose with 16 points and six rebounds. Sherece Smith (Clemson, S.C.) enjoyed a 4-4 night and was 1-2 from the charity stripe for nine points. The freshman also pulled down five rebounds.
Karlee Taylor (Asheville, N.C.) scored three points on 1-3 shooting from the floor. Her lone three pointer extended the team's consecutive streak of games with a three pointer to 36. The Blue Hose finished the night one-of-four from three while the Panthers only shot four-of-12.
PC falls to 8-16 (4-7 Big South) and High Point improves to 12-12 (6-5 Big South).
The Blue Hose will next play at home against Winthrop on Feb. 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. The men will also host Davidson on Saturday with tip-off being at 7:30 p.m.
