PC moves to 4-12 on the year and 2-6 in the National
Lacrosse Conference, matching a program-high four wins for the regular season.
Davidson moves to 5-10 and 4-3 in NLC play.
Laura Meade (Acworth, Ga.) led the Blue Hose with four
points, scoring a goal and assisting on three more.
Brianne Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio), Lauren Gulledge (Surfside
Beach, S.C.) and Kirstin Stenoien (Houston, Texas) scored two goals each for
the Blue Hose. Gulledge's pair of scores marked a career high for the sophomore.
Rachel Dieghan (Wooster, Ohio) also scored her first goal of the season in her
first appearance of the year.
Eight members of the Blue Hose tallied goals in the game.
Ward also controlled a team-high three draws and Mary Honan
(Old Bridge, N.J) led the squad in both ground balls and caused turnovers,
posting three in each category.
Ann Fucigna scored a game-high six goals and posted eight
points for Davidson.
PC scored eight goals in the second half after a 9-3
halftime deficit, but Davidson matched the scores with eight of its own to win.
The Blue Hose scored its first goal in style, as Hartford
lobbed a pass that Meade fired past goalkeeper Jessica Melby on a one-timer
that brought PC within one after the 6:46 of play, 2-1.
Alanna Parker scored twice for Davidson but the Blue Hose
found another with 19:26 left to make the score 4-2. Meade received a pass and
sprinted upfield, sending a deep pass as she crossed the restraining line to a
waiting Ward on the doorstep. Ward directed the shot into the left side of the
net for her first of the game.
The Blue Hose scored again to bring the score 9-3 going into
the halftime break. With 3:22 before the whistle, Ward cut to the front of the
goal and netted another close shot to pull within five.
Davidson scored once more in the final minute to enter
halftime up, 9-3.
The Wildcats scored the first six goals of the second half
but the Blue Hose found the net for eight of the game's final 10.
Hillary Leonard (Duluth, Ga.) provided an impressive
individual effort on her fourth goal of the year. Leonard emerged from behind
the net and fooled Melby from in close, stopping the Davidson run to make the
score 15-4.
Dieghan would make it two unanswered PC goals less than four
minutes later on her first of the year. Dieghan converted a Stenoien pass into
a goal with 17:32 left on the clock to give the sophomore her first goal of the
season.
Hartford completed the three-goal run from a free position shot
to make the score 15-6. The goal also gave Hartford the team lead in goals with
26 on the year before Stenoien's two goals later in the match put Stenoien in
front.
Davidson extended its advantage back to 10 on an Erin Keitel
goal but Katie Prisco (West Babylon, N.Y.) answered by converting a free
position shot to claw back to 16-7. The goal marked Prisco's 19th of
the year.
The Blue Hose defense allowed Davidson to score once more
before PC ended the game on a four-goal run.
Stenoien tallied her first of the game with 4:32 remaining,
tying Hartford's team-leading 26 scores.
Gulledge scored the next two for PC, one 59 seconds after
the other. The first came from a Meade pass and the second Gulledge potted
unassisted, marking the most Gulledge has ever scored in a game and bringing
her season total to a career-high three goals.
Stenoien added one more with 58 seconds left on the clock,
with help from Meade's third assist.
PC awaits its seeding in the National Lacrosse Conference
Tournament in Davidson, N.C. The tournament begins on Friday, April 29.
