CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team
played under the lights at Edens Field at Martin Stadium for the first time
this fall as the Blue Hose hosted East Tennessee State in an exhibition match
on Tuesday night, falling to the Buccaneers by a 2-0 margin.
The teams played three 30-minute periods and the Blue Hose put
the pressure on early, as Lauren Snyder (North Augusta, S.C.) fired a shot on
goal but could not convert.
The first 30 minutes passed with no score thanks to several
sterling saves from goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson (Grayson, Ga.). Anderson made two diving stops on quick, hard
shots from Kayla White and Genna Petersen midway through the frame. The senior
co-captain played the first two periods and made three saves before Jordan
Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) entered and tallied two saves in a scoreless final 30
minutes.
ETSU found the net twice shortly after the first break,
scoring twice in as many minutes. Jenna Caudle sent a high shot into the top
right corner from close range in the 39th minute and Taylor Maxson
added another in the 41st, lifting a ball over a charging Anderson.
Returning players provided an experienced touch on the
pitch, making up nine of the starting 11. Morgan Fragapane (Baltimore, Md.) headed
a slick through pass in the third period that nearly led to a scoring chance in
front of the net and co-captain Jessica Kramer (Acworth, Ga.) held steady on
the back line.
The Blue Hose played 20 players on the evening, including
eight newcomers. Freshman Kelly Kozera (Rome, Ga.) tallied three shots against
the Buccaneers and fellow newcomer Christy Schofer (Powder Springs, Ga.)
attempted to narrow the gap late in the match with a shot on net.
PC's defense allowed only one corner kick on the evening and
held the visitors to two shots on goal in the final 50 minutes.
The Blue Hose resume practice before opening the season on the
road against Furman on Friday, August 26 at 7 p.m. PC opens its home slate on
Sunday, August 28, against Clemson at 2 p.m.
