JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team traveled to
East Tennessee State to open the 2011 season in a tough Saturday night contest,
but despite a hard-fought match the Blue Hose fell by a 3-0 score.
PC opens the season at 0-1-0 while East Tennessee State
improves to 1-0-0.
Luke Ade (Alpharetta, Ga.) led the Blue Hose with three
shots on the night and Byron Quinatoa (Santo Domingo de Los Colorados, Ecuador)
added one as well.
Goalkeeper Tanner Osborne (Lexington, S.C.) collected two saves
in his first career start in goal.
Hollie Gray (West Des Moines, Ill.), Ignacio Monchetti
(Montevideo, Uruguay), Josh Carter (Anchorage, Alaska) and Pachinno Roberts
(Powder Springs, Ga.) made their first career starts in a Blue Hose kit while making their collegiate debuts on Saturday night. Jared Mitchell (Huntsville, Ala.),
Mike Day (Columbia, S.C.) and Tommy Erwood (Leawood, Kan.) also made their
first career appearances.
ETSU struck in the 11th minute as Theo Yang sent
a through ball to Aaron Schoenfeld, who finished with a shot from 12 yards out.
Ade countered with two shots on the opposite end and a corner
kick in the 22nd minute but the Blue Hose could not convert against
the Bucs, who took the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament title last year and
appeared in the NCAA Tournament.
The teams entered halftime with ETSU ahead, 1-0, but the
Bucs added to their score a minute and a half into the second frame. Frank
Doumbe lofted a cross to Alesi Osorio in the goal box and Osorio converted to extend
PC's deficit to two goals.
The Blue Hose looked to cut into the Buccaneer lead as Ade
tried with another shot late in the match but ETSU found an insurance score in
the 87th minute with a rebound goal from David Geno to take the win,
3-0.
PC returns to Clinton for its home opener against USC
Upstate on Friday, September 2, at 7 p.m.
