CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball
team rolled to a 69-46 win over visiting Brevard College on Tuesday morning,
giving a victory to the Education Day crowd of 1,633.
PC moves to 5-5 on the year and Brevard falls to 3-6. The Blue
Hose hit the road to take on NC State on Saturday at 2 p.m. before wrapping up
nonconference play against UCF in Orlando, Fla., on Monday at 7 p.m.
Keyonna Allen (Forest Park, Ga.) went 7-for-7 from the floor
in her first career start, notching 18 points, five rebounds and two assists to
set career highs in all four categories.
The Blue Hose shot a season-high 53.6 percent from the field
and scored a season-high 39 points in the second half to push past the
Tornados.
Shonda Burnside (Gray Court, S.C.) collected 12 rebounds
while Mariah Pietrowski (Elizabethton, Tenn.) scored 12 points while Dria David
(Lawrenceville, Ga.) added 11.
Micheala Watkins led the Tornados with nine points.
PC led wire-to-wire, leaping out to an 11-3 opening run,
thanks in part to five points from Allen and four from Karlee Taylor
(Asheville, N.C.). The Blue Hose held onto a lead that hovered around eight
points until pushing the advantage to 12 points at the halftime break.
Allen led all scorers with 13 points in the first half as
the Blue Hose shot an even 52 percent.
The second half saw much of the same but with scoring coming
from other sources. Pietrowski tallied eight points in the period while
Burnside posted six points and six rebounds.
PC's lead swelled to 16 points early in the in the second on
an Allen layup. The Blue Hose bounded the rock inside all day, scoring 52 of
its 69 points in the paint.
An 8-1 run gave the home side a 49-29 advantage midway
through the frame. Noelle Carter (Neptune, N.J.) knocked down a jumped and
Burnside poured in six points during the run.
PC built a 31-point lead with 4:16 left to go as several Blue
Hose entered the game to set season-highs. Cassidy Glenn (Blue Island, Ill.)
grabbed a career-high three rebounds while Megan Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.)
set a new season-best with four points. Chelsea Parker (Asheville, N.C.)
also tied her season scoring high with eight.
