BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener to Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon at Thompson Field, 21-4.
PC begins the season at 0-1 while Virginia Tech starts at 1-0.
Lauren Lefeber (Waxhaw, N.C.), Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C.), Katie Prisco (West Babylon, N.C.) and Kirstin Stenoien (Houston, Texas) each scored a goal for the Blue Hose.
Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) tallied an assist in the effort.
PC held the Hokies to only four goals in the second half and scored three of its four goals in the final 30 minutes.
Several members of the Blue Hose made their collegiate debuts. Jena Ready (Charlotte, N.C.), Bonnie Corrigan (Yorktown, Va.), Margaret Richardson (Maplewood, N.J.), Samantha Arey (New Albany, Ohio), Samantha MacCurdy (Vero Beach, Fla.), Sarah Glenn Neidenbach (Spartanburg, S.C.), Miriam Collins (Woodstock, Ga.), Jamie Carlson (Norcross, Ga.) and Nikki Day (Cornelius, N.C.) all saw time against the Hokies.
Corrigan led the Blue Hose in draw controls, with three. Rachel Deighan (Wooster, Ohio) and England each collected two ground balls.
Ryan Rotanz led Virginia Tech with three goals and three assists for six points.
The Hokies took an 8-0 lead before Ellis put PC on the scoreboard 7:59 into the game off of a feed from Beamish.
Arey entered the game in goal 6:14 into the first half and made three saves in 9:44 of play.
Down 17-1 at the half, the Blue Hose allowed two goals to start the second before scoring a pair of their own. Stenoien found the net at the 15:06 mark and Lefeber followed 1:03 later.
Carlson played the entire second half in goal and made three saves on seven shots.
PC scored the day's final goal as Prisco converted in front with 1:52 left on the clock.
The Blue Hose return to action on Sunday, February 26, when the squad hosts Cincinnati at 12 p.m.
