CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse
team dropped a close contest to the visiting Siena Saints on Monday afternoon
at Old Bailey Memorial Stadium, 15-12.
PC moves to 1-6 on the year, while Siena earns its first win to move to 1-6 as well.
The two teams entered halftime tied at 7-7 and the Saints
broke a 12-12 tie late in the game, scoring the match's final three goals to
take the win.
Eight different players scored for the Blue Hose and six of
them scored the team's first six goals. Kelsey Rupsch (Libertyville, Ill.),
Kirstin Stenoien (Houston, Texas), Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C.) and
Brianne Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored two goals each for PC. Ward and Ellis
each controlled a game-high five draws.
Goalkeeper Susan England (Bethesda, Md.) collected a
game-high six ground balls and made 12 saves in the effort.
Siena's Michelle Andrew scored five goals while Kristin
McMillan added four.
The two sides played an evenly-matched game, with each team
tallying 18 ground balls and 17 turnovers.
Siena took a 4-0 lead to open the game before Laura Meade
(Acworth, Ga.) and Rupsch cut the lead in half on a pair of free position
goals. The Saints' Michelle Andreo netted her first, but Ward answered off of a
Jena Ready (Charlotte, N.C.) assist to make the score 5-3 midway through the
first half.
Andreo netted her second to extend Siena's lead to 6-3. PC
then answered with four straight goals to take its first lead of the game with
4:53 left in the half. Lauren Lefeber (Waxhaw, N.C.) began the rally, followed
by a successful Stenoien free position shot. Prisco had a hand in the next two
goals, scoring off of a Rupsch assist before assisting on a Ward score.
The Saints converted with 3:26 left in the half to tie the
game at 7-7 at the break.
Stenoien gave PC an 8-7 lead 5:09 into the second before Siena
scored two straight to re-take the lead.
Liz Davis (Alpharetta, Ga.) potted her first goal of the
season when she cashed in from the free position to pull PC back even, 9-9.
Rupsch followed with her second of the game to put PC back in front with 13:47
to go.
Siena answered with a pair of goals before Ellis tied the
proceedings for the final time at 10:25. Ellis responded with her second of the
game after a Saints score but the visitors tallied the final three goals to
pull away, 15-12.
PC heads to Cumming, Ga., on Wednesday to take on Wagner in
a neutral site game at West Forsyth High School. The opening draw is slated for
2 p.m.
