Late Women's Lacrosse Rally Not Enough Against Bryant

CUMMING, Ga. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team staged a late rally against the Bryant Bulldogs on Wednesday at West Forsyth High School, but the comeback bid fell short as Bryant hung on to win, 17-8.

PC moves to 1-7 on the year while Bryant improves to 1-4.

The Bulldogs outscored PC 12-1 in the opening half to take the win. The Blue Hose scored the game's final four goals and held Bryant scoreless for the final 7:27.

Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C.) led PC with three goals, notching her third hat trick of the season. Kirstin Stenoien (Houston, Texas) added two goals, caused three turnovers, controlled four draws and collected three ground balls to pace the squad in all three defensive categories.

Goalkeeper Susan England (Bethesda, Md.) made nine saves in the effort.

Megan Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) made her first appearance of the season after joining the squad following the conclusion of the women's basketball season. The sophomore controlled a draw in the second half.

Haley Bloom led the Bulldogs with four goals and an assist on the day.

Bryant opened the game on a 6-0 run before Kelsey Rupsch (Libertyville, Ill.) put PC on the board by scoring from the free position with 7:07 left in the half. The Bulldogs closed out the half with six more scores to take a 12-1 lead into halftime.

The second half told a different story as PC tallied 16 shots compared to five in the opening period. Brianne Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio) gave PC its second goal from the free position 3:55 into the half to make the score 12-2.

Bryant tallied three goals but Ellis cashed in on a free position shot to stop the run with 15:11 remaining. The Bulldogs would score once more as PC ended the contest on a 4-0 run.

Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) fed Stenoien for a goal with 4:43 left on the clock before Ellis struck against 1:28 later for her team-leading 18th goal of the year.

Beamish found the net for the first time this season thanks to a Ward assist that cut the deficit to 17-7.

The Blue Hose scored its final goal with 58 seconds left. Stenoien received a free position attempt and converted, giving the senior her 13th goal of the season.

PC next hits the road for a Sunday neutral site match against Wagner in Newport News, Va. The opening draw is slated for noon.
