HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis
team dropped a National Lacrosse Conference match to the High Point Panthers on
Saturday afternoon, 17-4.
PC moves to 1-11 on the year and 0-2 in NLC action. High
Point moves to 8-2 and 2-0.
Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) and Brianne Ward (Cincinnati,
Ohio) each tallied a goal and an assist for the Blue Hose. Kirstin Stenoien
(Houston, Texas) and Jena Ready (Charlotte, N.C.) each scored once and Stenoien
paced the squad with four ground balls on the day. Catherine Ellis (Charlotte,
N.C.) picked up an assist as well.
Three of PC's four goals came from an assist.
High Point, the defending NLC champions, turned the ball
over 20 times against the Blue Hose.
Goalkeeper Samantha Arey (New Albany, Ohio) made four saves
and took the loss. Susan England (Bethesda, Md.) stopped five shots in relief.
High Point started strong, scoring the game's first four goals
before Ward converted an Ellis assist to put the Blue Hose on the scoreboard
with 21:03 left.
Beamish picked up her team-leading eighth assist with 26
seconds left in the opening half, helping on a Stenoien goal.
High Point took a 10-2 lead into halftime after a goal with
eight seconds left.
Beamish scored a goal of her own midway through the second
half. The sophomore cashed in on the free position to make the score 13-3.
Ready scored a little over six minutes later. The freshman
took a Ward pass and beat goalkeeper Julia Burns for her fifth goal of the
season.
Grace Gaeng and Mackenzie Carroll led the Panthers with
three goals and three assists each.
The Blue Hose return to action when they face Longwood on
the road on Friday. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m. in Farmville, Va.
