ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis
team turned in a strong performance over the weekend at the UNC Asheville
Bulldog Invitational, posting several high finishes.
Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) finished in second place
in the tournament's top (Blue) draw, winning two three-set matches and one in straight
sets before falling to UNC Asheville's Zoe Hamel, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. deLoach's wins
included victories over Milligan's Rachel Hodas (6-4, 6-4, 4-6), West Virginia
State's Andreea Slusarciuc (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) and UNC Asheville's Emily McNall
(6-0, 6-3) to reach the championship match.
Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) joined deLoach near the top of
the heap by taking third in the Blue draw. The sophomore knocked off Milligan's
Victoria Grace Sarver, 6-7, 6-4, 3-6, before dropping a match to the eventual
champion Hamel. Ransom responded with a dominant straight sets victory over
McNall (6-1, 6-0) to finish third.
In the Black draw, Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil)
finished in third while Lucia Leahy (Charlotte, N.C.) won the consolation
bracket. Alves took matches from WVSU's Charlotte Sandy (4-6, 6-4, 6-1) and
Milligan's Sarah Rainwater (6-2, 6-4) but came up short against Asheville's
Gillian Lewis. In the third place match, Alves rolled past Asheville's Amie
Cloer, 7-6, 6-2.
Lucia took a win over Sandy as well knocking off an unaffiliated
player for the consolation title.

match from WVSU's Amber Schneider while Elliott gave Asheville's Lewis a run,
6-1, 7-5.

duo of Ransom and Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.) finished as runners-up after a
9-8 battle to Asheville. deLoach and Alves took third place while Leahy and
Stanford emerged as champions of the consolation bracket.
