CLINTON, S.C. – A wet and wild second half saw the Presbyterian
College women's soccer team tie visiting Jacksonville but ultimately fall to
the visiting Dolphins on Thursday night, 3-1.
PC (0-6-0) received a penalty goal from Alice Blackwell
(Marietta, S.C.) in the 65th minute, the senior's first goal of the
season. The converted kick
tied the game at 1-1.
With 12:37 left in the first half, lightning halted the
action for two hours and three minutes before play resumed.
After Blackwell's tying score, the Dolphins scored on goals
from Emily Culbreth and Miranda Fyfe in the 68th and 71st
minutes, respectively, to take the win.
Goalkeeper Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) made nine saves in
the opening half before Sydney Fontenot (Austin, Texas) replaced her at
halftime. The freshman keeper made three saves on the night.
Stephanie Allen (Augusta, Ga.) nearly scored shortly after
halftime. Emily Boggus (Conyers, Ga.) laced a pass to Allen, whose point-blank
shot in the box hit goalkeeper Jill D'Amico. The ball bounced high and Allen headed
the chance just over the crossbar.
The Blue Hose edged Jacksonville in the corner kick count,
eight to five. Tori Lopez (Snellville, Ga.) also forced D'Amico to make a save
on the evening.
Jacksonville's Sarah Moghadas opened the scoring in the 57th
minute on an assist from Becca Massip, one of her two on the evening.
PC's next match sees the Blue Hose travel to USC Upstate on
Sunday, September 16. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
