CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball
team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday evening with a
home loss to Radford, 49-31.
PC moves to 10-7 overall and 5-1 in the Big South
Conference, becoming the last Big South team this season to lose a league game. Radford
moves to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in conference action. The Blue Hose take a short
trip to UNC Asheville on Thursday night to take on the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Radford
next hosts Coastal Carolina on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Highlanders outscored PC 28-14 to build on a four-point
halftime lead en route to the victory.
Mariah Pietrowski scored a team-high 10 points on the night,
all from the foul line. The 10 free throws tie the second-most in the Division
I era. She also led the Blue Hose with five rebounds.
Shooting proved PC's downfall as the home side shot a
season-low 21.1 percent from the floor while the Highlanders went 21-for-49
from the floor at a 42.9 percent clip.
PC struggled out of the gate as Radford opened the game on a
16-4 run. Pietrowski and Devin Fothergill (Somerset, Ky.) worked to cut the
lead to six with 7:42 left before halftime.
The Blue Hose held Radford without a score for over eight
minutes and narrowed the gap to four at the halftime break, 21-17. Dria David
converted a layup and Karlee Taylor knocked down a three-pointer down the
stretch to chip away at the Highlanders' lead.
Radford went on a 4-0 run to start the half, but the Blue Hose
answered with seven straight points to pull within one. From there, however,
the visitors pulled away for the 49-31 final tally.
PC forced 18 Radford turnovers and Karlee Taylor returned to
action after missing Thursday's game, hitting two shots from distance for six
points. Redshirt freshman Noelle Carter (Neptune, N.J.) also matched a
career-high with four rebounds.
