Blue Hose in Mexico

The Presbyterian College men's basketball team is spending Thanksgiving in Cancun, Mexico, at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, as part of the Triple Crown Cancun Challenge.  The Blue Hose face Bowling Green in the opening game, Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 12:30 p.m., before taking on Georgia Southern or Oral Roberts Nov. 27 at 1:30 p.m. or 4 p.m.

PC is 1-5 overall and led by Jordan Downing with 18.8 points per game.  William Truss is averaging a double-double with 10.0 points per game and a team-leading 10.0 rebounds per game.

Notes:
PC is heading to the Cancun Challenge this week with little knowledge of the teams they are facing ... The Blue Hose have never played Bowling Green or possible opponent Oral Roberts ... While PC has faced Georgia Southern, it has not since a 58-72 loss back in 1993 ... Overall, the Eagles lead the series 13-6, dating back to 1950 ...

The Blue Hose grabbed their first win of the season Nov. 18 by knocking off the Toccoa Falls Eagles in PC's home opener, 86-76 ... Reggie Dillard set a new Division I-era record with 12 assists on the night and posted his first career double-double with 14 points ... William Truss also tallied 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for another Blue Hose double-double. Truss' six blocks against the Eagles marked a career-best for the junior as well, part of 10 team blocks that set another Division I-era record ...

Reggie Dillard scored a career-high 20 points, while Jordan Downing added 18, to lead the Presbyterian College men's basketball team in a 69-48 loss to Wake Forest in action Nov. 15 at Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C.  The Blue Hose were outscored by only seven in the second half in a defensive, 27-20, battle ... Dillard and Downing provided 38 of the team's 48 points, with Will Truss pacing the Blue Hose in rebounds with six.

PC opened the season with an 88-57 loss at Georgia Tech Nov. 8 ... Despite four newcomers, including three freshmen, playing in over 20 minutes, the Blue Hose kept the game within single digits most of the first half and trailed by just two, 34-32, with 1:48 to go before intermission ... GT took an 8-0 run into the locker room to take its first double-digit lead, 42-32, at the half ... Jordan Downing recorded 22 points to lead the team, while freshman Markus Terry posted an impressive 13 in his collegiate debut ...

Jordan Downing and William Truss have stepped up their scoring output from last season ... Downing averaged 12.8 ppg last season and is up six points this season to 18.8 so far ... Truss has gone from 6.8 a game to 10.0 ppg ...

With a team so young, two freshmen find themselves in the top four in scoring with Reggie Dillard second with 13.3 ppg and Markus Terry fourth with 6.8 ...

William Truss, who averaged just 4.6 rebounds and 6.8 points per game in 2012, is averaging a double-double in six games with 10.0 rpg and 10.0 ppg ...

PC fell in a 68-82 loss at The Citadel Nov. 12 ... After falling behind by 16 points, 47-31, with 18:08 to go, the Blue Hose rallied with a 26-12 run to cut the margin to just two, 59-57, with 9:34 remaining ... Down by three, 69-66, with 3:56 on the clock, The Citadel scored nine unanswered to stop the rally and take the eventual 14-point, 82-68 win... Will Truss exploded for a career-high 20 points and 14 rebounds for his second career double-double ... Freshman Reggie Dillard had a solid game with a career-high 16 points on the night ...

The Blue Hose enter the 2013-14 season with huge gaps to fill with the departure of PC's Division I leader in scoring in Khalid Mutakabbir ... He led the team in scoring with 15.7 and contributed to a quarter of the team's points (501 of 1,987 points)  ...

60.3% of the 1,987 total points scored last season were from the Khalid Mutakabbir, Joshua Clyburn, Ryan McTavish and Eric Washington, the four starters no longer at PC  ... Clyburn was the team's leading rebounder as well with 5.8 a game ...

Jordan Downing, who was second on the team in scoring with 12.8 ppg, will rely heavily on William Truss (6.8 ppg) and five freshman that have joined the Blue Hose program ...

Only three current Blue Hose have ever started a game at PC, for a total of 58 games ... Jordan Downing started in 28 last season, while William Truss has tallied 20 in two seasons ... Austin Anderson rounds out the three with 10 starts in 2012 ...
