CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse
team dropped its 2013 season opener on Saturday afternoon, falling to
Jacksonville by a 23-4 margin.
PC moves to 0-4 on the season and will host Saint Joseph's
on Sunday, March 3 at 1 pm. Jacksonville improves to 3-2 overall.
Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C.) paced the Blue Hose with
two goals on the day. Liz Davis (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Lauren Lefeber (Waxhaw,
N.C.) each tallied one as well while Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) picked up an
assist.
Mary Honan (Old Bridge, N.J.) led the team in ground balls,
with four, while Ellis and Melinda Vasconcellos (Waxhaw, N.C.) each controlled
four draws.
PC registered 15 draw controls to Jacksonville's 14.
Taylor McCord and Ali Hoffman each tallied three goals for
the Dolphins. McCord had five points.
Jacksonville began the game on a 7-0 before Ellis put the Blue
Hose on the board thanks to a feed from Beamish.
The Dolphins took seven more into the halftime before Ellis
struck again from the free position.
Lefeber picked up her fourth goal of the season 9:40 into
the second half on a solid individual effort, slicing her way through the
Dolphins' defense.
Davis followed a little over a minute later on the senior's
first of the season on another unassisted score.
Bridget Hogan (Waxhaw, N.C.) made a season-high 11 saves on
the afternoon. The netminder stopped seven shots in the first and four in the
second.
