CLINTON, S.C. – Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C.) set a new school record for most goals in a game and Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) broke the school record for most assists in a game as both tallied eight en route to a dominating Presbyterian College lacrosse win over visiting Kennesaw State on Friday, 22-5.
PC improves to 2-8 on the season while Kennesaw State falls to 0-6. The Blue Hose stay at home to host Coastal Carolina on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m.
Ellis and Beamish each tallied nine points, the second-highest amount in a single game at PC. Beamish's assist record shatters Jenna Handshoe's previous record of five, set against Fresno State in 2009. Ellis's goal record breaks the previous record of seven, reached twice by the junior last season.
The team's 22 goals mark the highest offensive output since a 24-17 win over Howard on May 3, 2009 and the third-most in program history.
The Blue Hose took a 13-4 lead into halftime before outscoring the Owls 9-1 in the final half. Kennesaw State finally broke through with 32 seconds left in the game, snapping a scoring drought that lasted 39:08 and featured 13 unanswered Blue Hose goals.
Ellis tied Melinda Vasconcellos (Waxhaw, N.C.) for the team lead in draw controls, with three.
Eight different Blue Hose found the back of the net. Lauren Lefeber (Waxhaw, N.C.) potted four and freshman Maddie Seiloff (Marietta, Ga.) tied a career high with three.
Bridget Hogan (Charlotte, N.C.) earned her second win by stopping seven saves in the effort. Padgett Harrington (Apex, N.C.) made her PC debut in goal and stopped two saves late while playing 4:48 of action.
Senneca Ward scored all five goals for the Owls, beginning with the game's first 2:24 after the opening draw. PC then responded with seven straight scores. Brianne Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished an Ellis feed to tie the game before Kelsey Rupsch (Libertyville, Ill.), Ellis and Seiloff beat goalkeeper Beth Cochran. Ellis struck for four goals during the run thanks to two Beamish assists.
Ward scored three more times in the frame around goals from Lefeber and Beamish, making the score 9-4 with 9:40 to go in the first half. PC controlled the action from there until the closing whistle, as Maggie Richardson (Maplewood, N.J.) converted a Beamish pass for a goal and Ellis tallied three more goals before halftime. Megan Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) picked up her first assist of the season on an Ellis's final score of the period
PC kept its foot on the gas in the second. Lefeber netted an unassisted goal before Beamish helped out with the next three on scores from Seiloff, Ellis and Ward.
Lefeber added two more and Liz Davis (Alpharetta, Ga.) followed with a pair of her own. Seiloff completed her hat trick as the clock read 1:07 before Ward broke the second-half shutout with 32 seconds to go.
The game also marked the PC's first-ever home night game as the teams played at Martin Stadium, home of PC soccer.
