Coastal Carolina Edges Lacrosse in Big South Debut, 16-15

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team dropped its first-ever Big South Conference match at Martin Stadium on Saturday as visiting Coastal Carolina scored six unanswered goals to complete a comeback victory, 16-15.

PC moves to 2-9 and 0-1 in league play while Coastal Carolina improves to 4-6 and 1-0 in league action. The Blue Hose host Winthrop at Martin Stadium on Monday night at 6 p.m. while the Chanticleers visit High Point on Monday at 6 p.m.

The Chanticleers closed the game on a six-goal run to rally from a 15-10 deficit with 10:59 remaining.

Lauren Lefeber (Waxhaw, N.C.) led PC with four goals. Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) added a hat trick and two assists for a team-high five points while Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C.) chipped in two goals and two assists. Bridget Hogan (Charlotte, N.C.) made eight saves, including six in the second half.

Keri White (four goals, one assist) and Kimmy Delonge (two goals, four assists) led Coastal Carolina on offense.

PC raced out to a fast start, taking a 4-0 lead through the first 9:45 of play. Lefeber found the back of the net while Maggie Richardson (Maplewood, N.J.) and Beamish added scores to put the Blue Hose up four.

Coastal answered with a pair of goals before Maddie Seiloff (Marietta, Ga.) potted her 10th of the season to make it 5-2 in favor of the home team. Three Chanticleer goals tied the contest until Brianne Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished off a Liz Davis (Alpharetta, Ga.) feed from in close to give the Blue Hose the lead back at 7:58, 6-5.

The two teams swapped goals en route to a 7-7 tie at halftime. Beamish beat Chanticleer goalkeeper Trista Kuehn between Coastal scores from Paige Timberg (one of her three) and Elizabeth Reed.

PC began the second half on a 2-0 run thanks to goals from Davis and Ward, going up 9-7. Coastal found its first goal 9:16 into the frame when Timberg scored from the free position. Two goals from each team followed as Ellis and Megan Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) put a pair of PC goals on the board. Schaaf's goal marked the junior's first of the season.

Up 11-10, the Blue Hose ripped off four unanswered goals. Lefeber converted twice from the free position before Beamish and Ellis each delivered a goal to extend PC's lead to 15-10. From there, however, Coastal responded with six goals and held onto the ball for the final 2:44 for the win.

PC held a 14-13 edge in ground balls and won the turnover battle, 15-11. The Blue Hose also completed 11 of 12 clear attempts while disrupting four Coastal tries.
