BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team dropped a Big South Conference lacrosse match to Campbell on Friday evening, falling 16-13.
PC moves to 2-13 on the year and 0-5 in the Big South while Campbell improves to 6-5 and 1-4 in league play. The Blue Hose return home for a Senior Day matchup against Longwood on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Campbell broke a 7-7 halftime time by outscoring the visitors 9-6 in the second half.
Kesley Rupsch (Libertyville, Ill.) tied a career-high with five goals on the day, with four coming in the second half. Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) picked up six assists while Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C.) scored three goals.
Bridget Hogan (Waxhaw, N.C.) made six saves in the effort, including four in the second half.
PC outshot Campbell, 29-26, and collected 18 ground balls to Campbell's 16.
Campbell's Loren Day scored the first goal of the game—one of her team-leading five—before the Blue Hose responded with four straight. Brianne Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Maddie Seiloff (Marietta, Ga.) each found the back of the net along with Rupsch and Ellis.
Another Day goal preceded a Megan Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) score on an assist from Beamish. The play put PC up 5-2 with 21:59 left in the half.
Four Campbell goals gave the home side its first lead of the game but Ellis responded to pull PC even, 6-6. The junior added one more in the stanza to send the teams into halftime even, 7-7.
Campbell opened the half with a pair of goals and PC answered in kind with scores from Seiloff and Ward.
Rupsch scored three around a Taelar Errington goal, cutting Campbell's lead to one before the Camels rattled off three straight to take a 15-12 advantage. Rupsch added one more with 2:56 left from the free-position but the Blue Hose could not rally as Campbell won, 16-13.
