CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College lacrosse team dropped a Senior Day to the visiting Longwood Lancers on Sunday afternoon at Martin Stadium, 21-8.
PC moves to 2-14 overall and 0-6 in the Big South while Longwood improves to 9-6 and 4-2 in league play. The Blue Hose wrap up the season on Saturday at home against High Point at 1 p.m. and the Lancers head to American on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. matchup.
Longwood led 10-6 at the half and used an 11-2 second frame to hold on to the win.
PC honored seniors combined Liz Davis (Alpharetta, Ga.), Rachel Deighan (Wooster, Ohio), Mary Honan (Old Bridge, N.J.), Lauren Lefeber (Waxhaw, N.C.) and Melinda Vasconcellos (Waxhaw, N.C.) prior to the match. The five combined for 286 games, 125 points and 309 ground balls for PC, leading the program into its first full-fledged Division I season and the Big South's inaugural lacrosse campaign.
Megan Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) led the Blue Hose by tying a career-high three goals. Five different players each added a goal and Lefeber chipped in a pair of points. Brianne Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio) set a new career-best by controlling six draws.
PC went 14-for-15 on clear attempts and played a tough first half, outdrawing the Lancers 10-7 and going even in the turnover count, 8-8.
Lauren Prasnicki led off the scoring, converting at the 24:42 mark. Schaaf answered with a long, low shot to even the score at 1-1. Two Lancers goals later, Maggie Richardson (Maplewood, N.J.) used a Kelsey Rupsch (Libertyville, Ill.) feed to cut the deficit to one and Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C) finished a Lefeber pass to pull PC even, 3-3.
Schaaf scored again to tie the game at 4-4 before the Lancers went on a four-goal run. Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) halted the run thanks to a Bonnie Corrigan (Yorktown, Va.) assist and Lefeber scored with nine seconds left in the half to make the tally 10-6 in favor of the visitors at halftime.
Longwood scored the first two goals of the half and Ward answered on her 12th of the season. Longwood added six more before Schaaf completed the hat trick at the 7:11 mark.
Bridget Hogan (Charlotte, N.C.) made six saves in the effort.
