Beamish Ties Career Assist Record as PC Falls to High Point in Season Finale, 16-10

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team ended its 2013 season with a hard-fought 16-10 loss to High Point at Martin Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

PC finishes the campaign with a 2-15 overall record and a 0-7 marker in the Big South. High Point improves to 8-7 on the year and 6-1 in league play and will take the second seed into next week's Big South Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship.

Junior midfielder Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) picked up two assists to tie Brittni Dulaney (2007-10) for the most career assists in program history, with 50. Her 30 helpers this season also stand as the most in a single PC campaign.

The Blue Hose turned in a solid effort, matching the Panthers in goals (7-7) and turnovers (9-9) in the second half.

Lauren Lefeber (Waxhaw, N.C.) led the Blue Hose with four goals and an assist and the senior will leave PC with 77 career goals, pushing her to fifth all-time in program history on Saturday. Six other Blue Hose found the back of the net, including Melinda Vasconcellos (Waxhaw, N.C.) for the first time this season. Senior Mary Honan (Old Bridge, N.J.) also caused a team-high three turnovers in her last match as a Blue Hose.

High Point's Mackenzie Carroll led the Panthers with four goals and assist.

The Panthers scored the first two goals of the game before Vasconcellos responded, finishing off a Beamish feed. One High Point goal later, Maggie Richardson (Maplewood, N.J.) got in on the action by converting a Kelsey Rupsch assist (Libertyville, Ill.). Lefeber then potted her first of the day to pull the Blue Hose even at the 14:23 mark, 3-3.

High Point scored the next six goals to take a 9-3 lead into the halftime break.

Brianne Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio) halted the run by scoring the first goal of the half off of a Lefeber pass and Lefeber followed 38 seconds later with a score of her own thanks to a Megan Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) feed.

Lefeber scored her third of the game following a Mackenzie Carroll goal before a five-goal Panther run that extended the visitors' lead to 15-6 with 15:13 left.

From there, however, PC controlled much of the play and netted four of the game's final five goals. Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C.) found the scoreboard for her first of the game and 38th of the season. Lefeber scored her fourth of the game shortly after on Beamish's record-tying helper.

Beamish netted her 11th of the campaign with 1:05 to go and Maddie Seiloff (Marietta, Ga.) ended her freshman season with the team's final goal of the season, converting from the free position to take the score to its final tally, 16-10.

Bridget Hogan (Charlotte, N.C.) made nine saves in the effort.
