DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team suffered a setback in Big South Conference play on Saturday, falling to Davidson by a 19-3 margin.
PC moves to 2-12 on the year and 0-4 the Big South while Davidson improves to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in league action. The Blue Hose next face Campbell on the road on Friday at 6 p.m.
Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C.) led the Blue Hose with two goals and Lauren Lefeber (Waxhaw, N.C.) added another. Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.) assisted on both of Ellis's goals.
Maggie Richardson (Maplewood, N.J.) collected a career-high four ground balls to lead the Blue Hose in that category. Melinda Vasconcellos (Waxhaw, N.C.) also controlled three draws.
Davidson led 10-2 at halftime and scored nine in the second half en route to the victory. Bridget Hogan (Charlotte, N.C.) stopped 10 shots on the afternoon.
Lefeber scored the first goal of the game, converted a free-position shot 40 seconds after the opening draw. The goal marked PC's only free-position opportunity of the game. Ellis converted a Beamish feed with 10:52 left in the half to make the score 7-2. Ellis also scored midway through the second for PC's third goal.
The Blue Hose tallied 20 ground balls to Davidson's 25 and went 9-for-10 on clears in the second half.
Ann Fucigna led Davidson with eight goals.
