Blue Hose Knock Off The Citadel in Double-Overtime Thriller, 2-1

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team picked up its second straight win in dramatic fashion on Friday, night, using a Tori Lopez (Snellville, Ga.) penalty kick in double overtime to knock off the visiting Citadel Bulldogs, 2-1.

With the game tied 1-1 through regulation and one overtime period, PC defender Sophie Cobb (Columbia, S.C.) attempted to flick a ball into the Bulldogs' goal box in the 104th minute. A Citadel defender leapt to block the chance and the ball caromed off of her shoulder, forcing a penalty kick. Lopez took the kick for PC and made the most of the shot, forcing a low, hard ball into the right side of the net to win the game for the Blue Hose.

PC improves to 2-2-0, the team's best start since 2007. The Citadel falls to 2-3-1. PC next heads to Alabama State for a 2 p.m. matchup on Sunday.

In an evenly-played match, the Blue Hose scored an opening goal in the 26th minute before the Bulldogs a little over 10 minutes later.

PC struck first on a corner kick. Kelly Kozera (Rome, Ga.) lifted a kick into the box and Simpson directed the ball in via header, putting PC in front and giving the senior her first goal of the season.

The Citadel answered soon after. Lea Raedle shook herself free in the PC end found an open Mariana Garcia, who calmly fired a shot into the right side to even the game.

The Blue Hose held a 17-13 shot advantage, including a 3-0 edge in the extra periods. Thirteen of PC's shots found their way on net, led by Lopez's four. Freshman Rebecca McGrath (Hampstead, N.H.), in her first collegiate appearance, took three.

Blue Hose goalkeeper Jordan Broadway (Chapin, S.C.) made four saves—including three in the second half—for her second straight win. On the opposite end, Naomi Carter stopped 11 PC shots.

In a game partly decided by set pieces, PC enjoyed a 10 to two corner kick advantage.
